I have been dying to find a perfect shade of brighter pink for my lips and decided to try drugstore brands. Knowing myself, I wouldn’t be wearing these bright colours all the time, so, splurging on brands like Dior isn’t really budget friendly.
My friends tell me that L’oreal, Maybelline and Rimmel make pretty good lipsticks. I was initially hesitant about L’oreal because I remember their lipsticks have a funky smell that I don’t particularly like. The one that I bought, surprisingly, does not have any. Whew!
Below are a few that caught my attention. I got all of them from a local drugstore called Watsons. Maybelline surprised me with its durability of wear, and they do not dry out my lips at all. Rimmel goes on a little matte and the colours stay at least 4 hours on my lips. The only downside is they stay on a little too well – it’s hard to remove all those colour from my lips. Need an oil based lip colour remover to get that job done well.
Below are the swatches, from left to right:
L’oreal colour riche nutri shine in Sweet Rose (light shimmery nude pink which matched my own lip colour), Maybelline Color Sensational Moisture Extreme Lipcolor in Cosy Tangerine (bright orangy pink which leans more orange actually – oops!), Coral Pink (brighter pink on my lips – but not hot pink), Pink Bloom (love this colour, matches my lips exactly!!)
Maybelline’s Pink Bloom, Rimmel Lasting Finish in Guest List (a cooler pink that also looks a little rosy), Rimmel Colour Show Off in Pink Excess (blue toned pink but still looked good, made my teeth look super white!), Rimmel Moisture Renew in Glamorous Pink (dark pink with tinge of brown)
I would say L’oreal’s Sweet Rose is my favourite here. Then Maybelline’s Pink Bloom for its natural hue. Note that I favoured more natural pinks when I’m looking for a brighter one. Haha! But if I were to pick a bright one, I’d go for Rimmel’s Pink Excess.
I love all these pinks which are suitable for most skin tones. The best thing is, the 3 Maybelline lipsticks cost me less than a tube from Dior! I’d say, for the bargain, the quality is pretty good.
Spring Summer 2011 brings back the trend of bright lips like pink and orange and I think I’m half way there. Just need to find oranges that suit me now!! Cosy Tangerine should be classified orange but hey, there’s a tinge of pink so it’s still relevant.
What’s your take? Do you prefer to use drugstore lipsticks so you can go a little crazy with the colour selection or pricier ones? I’m torn – I’ve always believed in “you get what you paid for”…. but my these lipsticks are pretty good!
