Guerlain Meteorites Cruel Gardenia Illuminating Iridescent Powder. I first saw the photo when I was browsing Temptalia. It was love at first sight. I knew I had to have it! I haven’t tried any Guerlain products before, and I vowed this would be my first.
This limited edition illuminating pressed powder was released the week before Chinese New Year. I was lucky enough to have a friend who picked it up for me, then sent to me right before the break of the festive season. Thank you so much, you know who you are! Many people actually pre-ordered this, so I’m guessing this is already sold out. Yes, I am talking about something you cannot get. Yes, you can shoot me now.
The packaging of Cruel Gardenia feels a little weak. The container is made of plastic and it doesn’t weigh much. I would forewarn you against dropping this thing. I don’t think the content would hold up. It does look like something that breaks easily. It is even lighter than my MAC Mineralised Skinfinish Natural. So, exterior packaging wasn’t a positive for me. However, the inside made up for it. I twisted the cover and opened to see this…
It felt like opening an old treasure box to see the glowing golden treasure. I just sat there and admired the 3D structure of the powder for more than 5 minutes. Seriously. I completely forgot about the lightweight plastic packaging. Here is a close up of the Cruel Gardenia Illuminating Iridescent Powder. *drools*
What do you think? Isn’t it just beautiful? When I snapped back to reality, my first question was: How am I going to use this? It wasn’t a question of application. Rather, ’twas a question of whether I had the heart to even touch it! I braved myself for the first cut. I lightly touched it with my pinky and it felt like a blunt ragged sword slashed through my heart. Goodness, it was unbearable. I knew I had to do it. I finally had the guts to swatch it, so I could take photos for you.
Picture above was taken in natural light; picture below with flash. The swatch on the left was done with my finger. It was only a light swipe but came out intensely shimmery. The swatch on the right was sheered out, the way it is worn on the face. Not so scary anymore, eh? I would say this is a warm pink with a touch of peach. Just a tad. It is shimmery, but when worn as a highlighter, it brings out a subtle shine that does not emphasise pores. The powders are finely milled and there are no chunks of glitter to be found, at all. When worn with a stippling brush all over the face, this powder gives a very natural all over glow that does not add you to a night club decoration. Safe for day light. Don’t have to move to Forks. I have Bobbi Brown’s shimmer brick and compared to this, in my opinion, Guerlain wins hands down.
I would have to say this powder suits all skin types, from cool to neutral to warm undertones. The colour is sheer and it glows so beautifully on anyone who wears it. I have been using Cruel Gardenia every day. It wears nearly the whole day for me and is still visible after blotting! I am very happy with this purchase. I have been using it so much that the 3D gardenia doesn’t look as perfect anymore. Oh well, I didn’t pay RM189 just to look at it. I think this will be my daily staple for a long time to come. I even used it for a wash of highlight around my eyes and it works great! It doesn’t cover any of my dark cirlces but it did fake a glow – it gave me artificial sleep. *I’ve been missing on sleeps to get this site up and running*
