Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF50+++ UVA

I don’t know if you realised, but I’ve been featuring 1 sunscreen a month since February. There was Clarins, Dior and now Kiehl’s. My crystal ball tells me there should be another one next month, and maybe the next. Heh =) OK, I will try to keep things short and sweet because I have a tendency to ramble and go on and on and on. Today, I present to you Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF50+++.

The tube itself is really light and small, not much bigger than the size of my palm. I thought it was rather cute. I guess the brand wants you to know very clearly the benefits of applying sunscreen. See the prints on the tube? Self explanatory. Let me remind you though, those are benefits of sunscreen application. This product alone doesn’t get rid of existing hyperpigmentations. This product alone doesn’t stop natural skin aging. I do feel the prints can be a little misleading, but I’m sure many consumers are better informed nowadays. And of course, it’s just me being a bit anal. It’s just the packaging. AND, if you never wear sunscreen, you will surely see hyperpigmentation on your skin sooner than you think. The sunscreen is made to be suitable for sensitive skin as well, and for my skin that is prone to breakouts, I’m glad to report that I don’t see any popping out.

Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense is what it claims – light. The consistency reminds me of Diorsnow UV Shield, initially. Looks creamy not watery, but it applies like a cool gel. There is no heavy residue or a white cast over my face either. What I like about it is that it doesn’t promote sebum production, keeping my face natural the whole day. No shiny disco ball. The more I use it, the more I like it! I even used it on Chloe and Ashlyn on our recent trip. We were in the sun a lot, and I kept on re-applying this on them and on myself. Even though we were sweating like pigs, this sunscreen stayed on comfortably. Need I say more?

Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense is a chemical sunscreen. If you’re picky, wanting to stick to physical ones, this will not be for you. I’m not too fussed about what kind of sunscreen it is, as long as it feels light and lets my skin breath. I live in a hot and very humid country, and if this works for me, it should work for those who live in cooler climates. For those of you who are interested in the list of ingredients, photo below is for you.

This 30ml sunscreen retails for RM140 and is available at all Kiehl’s counters and stores nationwide. That’s probably my biggest con for you. The price. Of course, I’ve paid much more, but 30ml isn’t really that much of a product. I can finish the tube in 2 months, maybe less. This is a little pricier than Shiseido, a tad bit cheaper than Clarins and much cheaper than Dior.

What do you look for in a sunscreen? I feel that the new generation ones are light and non oily on the skin. So far, the products that I have tested are all quite gentle on the skin and I’m really starting to love this one too. What sunscreen are you using now?

xoxo Lily

Now I am tempted. I like the Lancome one. I can never remember the range, the white and blue one. It’s pretty much about the same price but after reading your review, I am tempted to try this. If it’s ok for your skin it should be ok for my skin too 🙂

    • Lily

you should try it! I still like the others but this one is more affordable

  • Hanny Daforcena

I am still using my Loreal one hahaha. Am still starting to get into the habit of using sunscreen everyday ^.^

    • Lily

glad to hear you are still using it. Continue!

I am using this one as well at the moment and it works like a charm, light on the skin and does not break me out either. My bro got me the 60ml tube from Dubai airport for about the same price as the 30ml one though I cannot be too sure. I was using Dior ‘Diorsnow UV Shield’ White Reveal Moisturizing UV Protection SPF 50 – PA+++ and L’Occitane Immortelle Brightening UV Shield SPF40 before this. All 3 are equally good though Kiehl’s is healthier for my wallet! 🙂

    • Lily

You are right. Definitely wallet friendly and it is Comfy on skin. a good product.

  • Sunny @ Mostly Sunny

Promising! I’m using Dior Hydra Life BB cream that does 3 things in one go now (sunscreen, day cream, foundation or just something to even out my skin tone. It has quite some coverage) and I love it! I’ve had pretty good experience with Kiehl’s, so I’d like to try this at some point 🙂

    • Lily

Aaw… haven’t seen this Hydra BB cream here. Must be a regional thing. I still use spf50 before any BB cream tho.

  • Petrina

I’m using the Lancôme UV Expert GN Shield SPF 50 and it’s worked out so fab I’ve been using it for the past 4 years +. It has had a name change over the years but the formula is still great – very light n non greasy

    • Lily

Really ? I have to try that. sounds promising!

  • Gin

i tried many (shiseido, lancome, neutrogena, loreal)and in the end went back to biore UV aqua rich.. thanks to my super easily clogged pores… very light, and cheap!the only gripe is that it provides 30+++ only…

    maybe i should give this a try…

    • Lily

l haven’t tried Biore but L’ oreal is pretty good. Hada labo has great texture but breaks me out 🙁

  • Sounds like such a lovely product! Would love to give this a go soon but I’ve got to go through two bottles of my Shiseido one before I can try any others :p

    • Lily

The Shiseido one that I tried was excellent. RM125 only. I might go back to that after I finish this tube.

    Hi Lily!

Just to share, I’d used Clarins, Lancome, Loreal, Dior and this one but I prefer the one from Dior than this due to its mattying texture. Kiehl’s is not greasy and it is very light, I also dis not burn using this but somehow I prefer Dior. I feel more comfortable using Dior, maybe I’m crazy but I just love it! Oil control is wonderful! Anyway, the new sunblock from Shiseido – perfect uv protector is equally awesome! It’s light and just slightly less mattifying than Dior’s but it works beautifully as a make up base too! Do try it if you could! ^_^

    • Lily

Hi Liyuen, thanks for sharing! Yes, I agree about Dior being the most mattifying among all that I have tried. The Shiseido sunblock that I used (which I also loved) was its Multi Defense UV Protector. It was launched early last year and I absolutely loved it. Cheaper too… bought it for RM125 at that time and Dior is RM190 I think. Now, after I finished this tube, I will give Lancome’s a try. A few comments have mentioned it and I’m curious =)

    Hi!

I really liked your review on this product!
Actually I noticed that you said this product is a chemical sunscreen.
Really curious as to how to differentiate a chemical and physical sunscreen because I’m currently I was quite confused when I saw that “Titanium Dioxide” used in physical sunscreens is one of the ingredient.

(Sorry! I’m really new to sunscreen products!)

    With thanks <3
