Brighten and Firm while you sleep: Naruko Magnolia Night Gelly

I’ve been reading good reviews about Naruko, so I’ve decided to give it a try. I was recommended the Magnolia Night Gelly and since the price wasn’t exactly a pinch, I got it. I’ve been using for the last couple of months and this is my short and sweet review.

The taglines for this product are, Say goodbye to dull unhealthy skin and Brighten your skin while you sleep. Below is the excerpt I took from Naruko Malaysia’s website, flawless miraculous claims of this night gelly, which is equivalent to a sleeping pack.

The Magnolia Brightening and Firming Night Gelly is designed for night time use. Sleep allows the brightening, anti-aging and antioxidant ingredients to absorb completely into the skin, to reduce melanin formation, and to smooth out fine lines to prevent aging. For best results, use the night gelly every night before going to bed. You will see extraordinary results.

The tub of night gelly comes in a heavy glass jar with a plastic scoop. The SA told me specifically to use this spatula for hygienic purposes and to discard any unused products at the mark of 6 months. I have been using it on alternate nights for the past 2 months and I’m only a quarter way in. I probably need to use it nightly to finish the tub. On first application (after all my skincare), the gelly felt a little sticky. It took a little massaging for it to be fully absorbed into skin and once it does, skin feels smooth. There is supposed to be a light magnolia scent, but this nose of mine can’t detect it. Maybe it’s faulty, my nose, I mean. LOL! This night gelly is easy to use, and it feels comfortable on the skin. My skin appears brighter, but it may be due to the potent whitening serum I’m loving at the moment. I do not see any substantial firming effects, and all I can say is, it hydrates my skin nicely, without breaking me out. Maybe I do not see extraordinary results because I’m only using it on alternate nights 😉

There are 3 main ingredients in this night gelly. Magnolia calms and soothes, Arbutin suppresses melanin formation and Snow Fungus (with hyaluronic acid) locks in moisture and firms up the skin. The SA told me there are no preservatives or parabens in the product, hence the 6 month usage period after opening. However, I do see alcohol in the ingredient list, so for those of you who have sensitive skin, beware.

I would say this is a good replacement for Laneige Water Sleeping Pack. It costs less than half the price and I find they work just the same. I purchased this at the KBS Beauty Store for about RM41.25 after a 10% discount. I realised later that you can get it at Naruko Malaysia online store at a cheaper price RM39. You can also watch out for it at Watsons. When there’s a sale, the price will be even lower.

Have you tried this brand before? If you have, which is your fave?

xoxo Lily

I knew about Naruko’s products from the Taiwanese talkshow, Ladies First. He is one of the regular guests hahaha. Apparently his products sell like hotcakes everywhere!!thanks for the review, may try this soon!!

    • Lily

Yup, got to know about it from Ladies First too. I haven’t tried enough of the products to really know if it works, but for the price, it’s not too bad.

  • Sabrina

wow! thanks for sharing! im about to look for night sleep cream!

    • Lily

You can give this a try for sure. There are a few night gellies though. You might want to have a look at the range and see what suits you =)

I’ve heard of this brand (doh, the guy’s very famous in Taiwan) but I’ve never tried anything yet! I like the concept though. I’m trying a sleeping mask out, but I really haven’t been getting enough sleep so I’ll need to give it a couple more chances before I can make a proper analysis 🙂

Sleeping masks work quite well. I sleep in an air conditioned room and it’s very drying. I find that sleeping masks help keep skin hydrated, but that’s probably the only thing it does. As for whitening claims, I find serums work best =) Can’t wait for your review!

  • Thanks for reviewing this! Been thinking of trying Naruko products for a while now and the fact that their prices are reasonable makes it even more tempting for me! 😉

    • Lily

It’s not too bad =D Glad you like it. LOL!

  • Ok! Sold! I am going to get this after my current tub of sleep mask is used up!

haha. I have only tried Naruko AM+PM Hydrating Wake Up Pack. It is AWESOME! If you are looking for one-stop moisturizer for both day and night next, perhaps you could try it. =)

    • Lily

This is the only Naruko product I’ve tried, actually. I’ll definitely go have a look at the wake up pack you mentioned. Thanks for the rec!

  • Thanks for the review! Guess it’s time for me to find an alternative replacement for my Laneige Sleeping Pack too (as it quite pricey). Hope this don’t break me out!

    • Lily

Hi Tina, I didn’t encounter any breakouts, so it should be ok? hope you’ll like it!

I’ve not tried Magnolia Night Jelly but the last i tried the Tea Tree Oil Out Night Jelly, it was soooooo oily in the morning , yeeks! and the Acne Clay Cleanser made me break out more than usual, though i really liked the refreshing cooling cleanser felt. So i’m abit careful about trying Naruko products 🙁

    • Lily

I haven’t tried any other products by Naruko. The night jelly is good, but expires 6 months after. So, I think I’m gonna stick to my CLinique moisture surge!
