Keeping Skin Hydrated with Clinique Moisture Surge

This product has been around for years. I remember using it when I was in my early 20’s just as a moisturiser. Early this year, I decided to give this a try again, and I have been loving it. The Clinique Moisture Surge is my favourite multi tasker and has saved my skin from drying up multiple times.

The sole purpose of this product is to hydrate. That’s it. It’s a simple product with a tunnel vision: Hydration. The peachy pink gel creme comes in a round glass jar. When applied, skin feels cool and depending on how dry your skin is, it takes a little while for it to be fully absorbed into the skin. It does get a tad bit tacky if applied too thick, but it will still be absorbed into the skin.

There are few ways I like to use the moisture surge. Firstly, I like to use it as an ‘in between’ moisturiser. You know, that awkward time after work when I take off my makeup, but not the time to apply my evening skincare yet? I will apply a thin layer of moisture surge to keep my skin hydrated. Then, before bed, I wash off using cold water, and continue with my skincare, starting with toner. No, I don’t use cleansers again. That might be too drying or harsh if I cleanse my face too regularly.

There are times when my skin feels dryer than normal. I can tell when foundations just don’t sit right on my skin. After my morning skincare, I will apply a very thin layer of moisture surge on my face 5 minutes before applying foundation. Yes, it replaces my face primer. I find that my skin is super soft and foundation goes on like a dream. The downside is, my face gets oily a little faster than usual. Oh well, can’t win. I prefer blotting to having cakey looking foundation!

Clinique Moisture Surge is also great as a mask. I apply a thick layer of it on top of my evening skincare, and go to bed without washing it off. This is my weekly routine and when my skin is especially dry, I do this almost nightly until I see a difference. In fact, that’s what I did when I was in Melbourne for 2 weeks. My dad used it too and it says a lot. He doesn’t put ANYTHING on his face and this gel creme kept his face comfortable. The cold dry weather there made his face dry and tight. Worked like a dream and kept him happy, apparently. In case you’re wondering, no, moisture surge never broke me out.

This 50ml tub retails for RM165 and is available at all Clinique counters nationwide. I think there’s a heavier version for dry skin, called Intensive Moisture Surge (or something like that), but it’s not suitable for me. Is RM165 expensive? This product is a no brainer multi tasker, and I am happy to repurchase even though it is something I use up quickly.

Have you tried Clinique Moisture Surge before? How do you like to use it?
