Dior Croisette Eye Gloss: A brief review on Sunset

As mentioned in my Saint Tropez post, I was excited and curious to try the Summer Collection Eye Gloss. Eye gloss? Long wearing? My mind was filled with doubts, already thinking of how to word my review by being neutral and honest without whacking it with negativity. I imagined an eye gloss would crease like crumpled linen, wet and shiny like grease. I was pleasantly surprised that I was all kinds of wrong.

There are 4 shades of eye glosses and here, I will feature Sunset. I also have Azur (light blue) but I haven’t swatched that yet. The packaging reminds me of a little lip gloss. In fact, if the words eye gloss were not printed so clearly on the tube, I would definitely have mistaken it for one! Even the doe foot applicator reminds me of a lip gloss. The colour is also rather pretty for a lip gloss! And just for the sake of it, I’m gonna say it again – lip gloss!

This is a very pretty peachy shade and there are microglitters in this gloss. It is very beautiful indeed. Below is the swatch, left blended, right is a swipe of it using the applicator. You probably notice that the colour blends very well with my skintone. I actually think it blends a little too well because once applied on my lids (a thin layer), the peachy shade is barely noticeable. The only thing left is the very fine glitter that shines very beautifully… like pixie dusts on the lids. I imagine this shade to be more noticeable to darker skin tones. It will also have a brightening effect which I think will be gorgeous.

I apply the gloss by putting a tiny dot on my lid using the applicator, and then smudge it out using my ring finger. I can only wear a very thin layer at a time. Once dry, I apply another layer. This technique prevents the gloss from creasing on my lids. The texture is liquid, easily blended, and dries powdery. I experienced no fallouts and the glittery sparkles stayed on all day. The photo below shows what it looks like on my lids. It is very difficult for me to capture the brilliance of the fine glittery shine, and since this shade goes onto my lids with just a hint of peach, my job as an amateur blog photographer is made much harder.

I like to wear this alone just for some sparkly eye effect, or on top of other eyeshadows for a subtle shimmer. To wear this on top of another eyeshadow, I like to put a little dollop at the back of my hand, blend out some product on my ring finger and gently dab on my lids without rubbing. This will not disturb the makeup underneath. I also tried Sunset as a dramatic highlighter for the cheeks (same technique), but on my pale skin, the peach is quite prominent. However, when worn (very thinly) on top of a darker peach blush, it works. A little multi tasker, this one!

This limited edition eye gloss retails for RM96 and is available at all Dior counters nationwide. What do you think of the concept of this eye gloss? Does it bring out the curiosity in you to want to try it? Have you?

Oooo! It is pretty!! But does it crease on you?

    • Lily

Oops, did I not say that in the post? It doesn’t crease as long as I layer it on bit by bit. If I slap a thick layer on, it does crease a little. And that’s without wearing a primer. Not bad at all!

        Wow. That is good! ^.^

Ah, I remember gasping at how pretty the glitters look when I swatched this eye gloss during one of my regular browsing-through-makeup-counters-session at David Jones! Just couldn’t bring myself to get it, too pricey.. ><

    • Lily

Ah, David Jones… I browsed the beauty section when I was there and the prices were REALLY high compared to those in Malaysia! I understand now why my Aussie friends complain about the price tags there. If you need a CP, just let me know 😉

Thanks Lily! That’s very kind of you 🙂

  • I have this too. I am actually loving everything about Dior’s liquid eyeshadow, it’s smooth and doesn’t crease much. However I do find that it irritates my eyes a bit, I don’t know whether it’s the case of my sensitive eye or is it the formulation. Despite that, I still wear this quite often.

I agree, it is smooth and doesn’t crease much even on my oily lids. I haven’t experienced any irritation on my eyes though. Do you think that maybe it’s the fine glitter that somehow got into your eyes?

If this is a formula that doesn’t crease, then I’m more than willing to look into it! I’m developing an obsession with cream shadows, but some do crease on me and that’s something I don’t want!

    • Lily

I was obssessed with cream eyeshadows at one point, but realised they they would eventually dry out before I could put a dent in them! I’ve held back for a while now, and stuck to powder eyeshadows… until I put some dents in my existing ones anyway. This one however, should be different. It’s so cool that it doesn’t crease much and not drying at all 🙂 You have to try it!

  • That’s such a flattering shade, LIly! I’ve got a cream eyeshadow obsession thanks to you and now you’re making me want to give this a go!

    • Lily

Haha! I’m glad I can enable you 🙂 You should check out the shade. It looks lovely and so easy to wear!
