Behind the Scenes at Chloe.Ash

First, let me just say that this post is inspired by the lovely Tine from Beautyholics Anonymous. I thought her behind the scene post was lots of fun and I’ve always been curious how other bloggers, well, blog. So today, I will be letting you into my world, behind the scenes at Chloe.Ash!

Here is my vanity table in my bedroom, which also acts as my work station. I just put my laptop there and I type away! It’s also easy for me to refer to colours and textures as my makeup are all stored here. They are on top of the desk and in the drawers which are not shown in this photo. Some items I don’t reach for anymore are stored elsewhere. I’m planning to consolidate those things, but I haven’t decided what to do with them just yet. Yes, Chloe and Ashlyn decided to join in the fun. If you were wondering, yes, they just woke up, explaining the unmade bed.

I like to take photos using natural light but there are times when I just really don’t have the time. I’ve shared with you before that I take lovely photos using the bathtub, so here I’ll just tell you where I take the photos in daylight. There are times when I just crouch on the floor by the huge bedroom glass wall and I also take photos in the garden. Some FOTDs are taken at the front porch, so it really depends on how the sun is that day.

This is the huge glass wall in my bedroom. Since I don’t have someone taking a photo of me taking a photo, I decided to let Chloe and Ashlyn bomb most of my photos here, if you don’t mind 🙂 Photos taken at this location tends to be cooler because of the UV blocking tint of the glass wall.

This is the main door to the house, I can be found either standing snapping photos of myself, or sitting on the floor with the worst posture ever, taking photos of products. Photos here come out warmer than usual, and I think it’s very likely due to my surroundings. Warm wooden colours and also gold beige tiles. Want skin that looks warmer and with a tan? Take it here. LOL!

Then, there is post production. I used to use Lightroom, but I’m now learning to use Photoshop. I’m just a basic user, adjusting the curves and a little more. I’m still learning to make photos look more appealing and it’s all trial and error for me. I am a firm believer that good photos in a blog are very important. If you followed my blog’s progress, you’d be able to see the HUGE difference in photos. I’m still learning day by day, and I hope some day, my photos are attractive enough 🙂

BEFORE…

POST PROCESSING…

AFTER…

So there you are, little snippets of behind the scenes (BTS) at Chloe.Ash. Hope I’ve de-mystified some questions. Blogging is anything but glamourous. It is time consuming, nerdy stuff, really. Haha! I might do another post on how I take my FOTD photos, but that means having to catch Mr ChloeAsh at the right time so he can be my photographer. We’ll see 😛

Do you blog? Perhaps you could do a BTS post as well, and put the link below. I’d love to read it, because I’m nosy like that 🙂

xoxo Lily

  • Hanny Daforcena

Ya know, I really need to learn how to do post-production for videos over the summer >.< I'll need it for my job as the student council editor next year as well. May I ask how are you learning to photoshop, even if it is only the basics?

    • Lily

Erm, I watch tutorials on YouTube and basically just trial and error. I’ll pull up a photo and mess around with it until I figure out what I’m actually doing!

      • Hanny Daforcena

Wow. Trial and error, eh? Well now, off to torrent the latest copy of Photoshop then! Thanks!

        • Lily

          Good luck 🙂

  • xin

chloe and ashlyn are so cute! and can i say your vanity table are so neat! my table doesn’t even have anymore space for another bottle of serum

    • Lily

My vanity table only stores my makeup stuff. My skincare is in the bathroom, hence less mess 🙂 Chloe and Ashlyn were more than happy to pose as models because they love to photobomb me anyway. When I take photos of products even, they photobomb me with their legs and hands. Soooo annoying! LOL!

  • Sukie

I know I’ve said this so many times but your girls are so adorable! 😀 I need to lay my hands on Photoshop as soon as I can!

    • Lily

Thanks sweetie. Yes, just get Photoshop and learn little by little. I’m just dabbling here and there…hopefully I’ll really know what I’m doing soon 🙂

  • Love your behind-the-scenes! You have great natural lighting there.

I’m still struggling with photo composition, so it’s still a work-in-progress for me 🙂

    • Lily

Hey Tine! Yes, plenty of natural light here, only time forbids 🙁 Your photos are lovely! I guess we’re our own worst critic 😉

  • Oh my god, Lily!! *squee* You have the cutest kids. The cutest!

    //helpless flailing

    • Lily

And you have the cutest flails, Rae. LOL!

  • I really enjoyed this post–I love getting a sneak peek into other people’s setups! And you have the cutest photobombers! I have one too in the form of my dog. She hates when I’m taking photos of products because I get super focused and it takes me about 1-2 hours every session, so she knows she will not be getting all my attention when I bring out the white boards and camera 😛 Just the other day when I was doing my Giorgio Armani post, I was taking some photos, really in the zone when through my camera lens I see a white fuzzball enter into my field of vision. When I looked up, she had plopped her body down right on top of my concealers and refused to move! 😛 Haha anyway, your daughters are gorgeous Lily!

    • Lily

LOL Becca you have the cutest dog 🙂 Chloe and Ashlyn know better than to sit on my products, but they just can’t help sticking their limbs into my photos. Reason I’m sure is not to annoy me, but they want to be in the photos too! So, they were very happy to be my models in this post. There are heaps more photos taken, really funny ones, but I guess I’ll show them to you guys another day. You should do a BTS post too!

  • Your photos look GREAT both products and your makeup looks! 😀 I can’t get over what a genius idea the in-bathtub photography is!

Chloe and Ashlyn are so cute. Do they ever ask to play with your makeup?

    • Lily

I drool over your photos peach_. So, if you have any tips to share, I’m all ears! Chloe and Ashlyn are cute in small doses. Hahahaha! They know not to play with my makeup but that doesn’t deter them from asking and sometimes demanding. So, instead of having them cry, I prefer to apply lip balm on them. They still think it’s makeup and they keep quiet for a while… they’ll have a fish face and not move their lips for like 5 minutes. LOL!

      • Oh yeah, I read on the article that they do, but I was curious if you let them! 😀 That’s cute that they pucker up after you put lip balm on them. They must feel special with it on.

        • Lily

Yes they do. It’s the only thing they can try. Lol! There is no way I’ll apply makeup on them for no reason. Chloe’s recital is coming up and her performance requires makeup. She’s exited about that!

  • Cynthia

Love this post!! And your house is so huge.. Wish I have a glass window through my room. But spore is so small whr neighbors get to sneak on you. Lol!! And both ur daughter look alike..

    • Lily

Thanks Cynthia! My uncle is in Singapore, so I know what you mean… but the trade off is you have so much more to play there 🙂

  • Your daughters are the cutest! And yes, love Tine and love the BTS! My vanity is so messy (hence the blog name, eh? lol) I think readers would get a heart attack seeing it.

    • Lily

Oh gosh, Chloe and Ashlyn have their own fan club. It’s a little unnerving in real life too, when strangers would come up and pinch them or take photos. I kid you not. Mr ChloeAsh and I are like, R U Serious? -__-”
Anyway, I would love to read your BTS!! Messy vanity is real. I for one won’t mind it at all 🙂

  • Bugs

Oh my, is that a coconut tree in your garden ??

    • Lily

      LOL, it’s a huge palm tree 🙂

  • Petrina

Lovely daughters 🙂 I’ve been lazy the last few months ( with a good reason!) and blogged intermittently via my iPhone lol. Very interesting post

    • Lily

Hey girl! Been a while 🙂 I can’t blog on my phone. Feels like something is missing if I did that. The only time was when I was admitted to the hospital, I announced my leave. Lol! Will you get back to regular blogging?

      • Petrina

Hopefully ! It all depends on how I handle motherhood lol

        • Lily

Ah, you’re nearly there! Now, this is the best excuse to take time off blogging completely. When little bub joins you in this world, it’s gonna be busy 🙂

  • Loved this as I did Tine’s and the possibilities for your lighting & composition are endless! So jealous of your space coz I have to work with very minimal spaces. Working on setting up my work space finally though. Its one of those things that I never do, and then when I want to, want it now. Sigh 🙂

    • Lily

“Want it now”…I can totally understand because sometimes I’m like that too! When you have your work place set up, you should do this BTS post too 🙂

  • Oh yay Lily! I love posts like these, so keep em coming! I’m such a nosy person so this really satify me, lol! Love seeing your two amazing kids, they are beautiful!

    • Lily

Haha thanks Teri. It was fun writing it. There are so much more I wanted to show you guys, but I’ll save that for another day. You should write one yourself too!

  • ohhh the girls are adorable! 🙂 And that big window looks like it is in a quite a nice room! It was nice to peek into your place! 🙂

    • Lily

Thanks Joyce 🙂 I’m planning on doing a few other posts like this in the near future because of the positive response. We’ll see…just have to get off my lazy arse and take the photos. LOL!
