My First Clarins Skincare: White Plus HP Intensive Whitening Smoothing Serum

Yes, I know I know. Clarins has been around for ages, and I haven’t tried any skincare products from them, except the sunscreen which didn’t work well for me, and only me. To me, their counters are not very noticeable, I have to consciously look for them and the SAs here are rather quiet. Anyway, strategic marketing aside, I’ve been contemplating on repurchasing my favourite whitening serum, when I came across this duo at the airport. The price point is very attractive, so I picked up their White Plus HP Intensive Whitening Smoothing Serum.

This set is a travel exclusive so if you’re flying somewhere, you might be able to grab this. This duo sells for SGD95 if I’m not mistaken, while locally, the price of 1 bottle is RM185. Please correct me if I’m wrong. This, for me, is a bargain. I get 2 bottles of 30ml, which is great for me. I’m used to 50ml bottle serums anyway. The serum comes in a lightweight plastic bottle with a pump nozzle that I find convenient to use. I use 2 pumps for my face and neck. The serum is a milky white texture, and I love the scent. It smells of soap and powder πŸ™‚

To use, I prefer to pump onto my palm, rub my palms together and spread all over my face and neck before patting it in gently. The serum doesn’t feel oily nor does it feel like silicones. It feels like very light gel on the skin, and absorbs completely very quickly. I like that. It doesn’t add weight to my face and it is important to me since I layer different serums on my face. It is also great for day use, as it doesn’t grease up my face. I’m very pleased with the texture.

I have been using it since mid December last year so it’s been nearly 2 months. My face is brighter, and when my skin was acting up, this serum helped my skin heal faster. Marks lightened and disappeared instead of staying there stubbornly for a few months. It does nothing to lighten my freckles, and I’m not too worried about them. In fact, I like some freckles on my cheeks anyway πŸ˜› I’m not sure if it’s because of this serum, but my skin feels smoother and looks finer. My mom who is my worst critic actually commented my skin looked better. So, I guess I’m doing something right somewhere!

Have you tried this serum before? Is there anything else from Clarins that you want to recommend me? This experience has given me some confidence to try more, so let me know. I’m game πŸ™‚

thanks for the tip! will look for it as I will be travelling soon. this is my favourite serum too. and I love the clarins white plus skincare range <3

    • This is the first I tried, so I’ll be looking for other stuff to try now!

Yes I agree that my pores somehow seemed smaller and skin becomes finer with this, but I also noticed that it increases blackheads around my nose area. So far, the only brightening serum that worked for me is from shiseido but the price kills me. Why oh why must the serums be so pricey.

    • Oh, yeah, I used the Shiseido White Lucent before, and the price is an absolute killer. This one is much more affordable πŸ™‚

  • Nice that it actually helped your skin with looking brighter! I’m always a bit critical when it comes to brightening products, a lot seem to do just nothing for my skin. Also, brightening products are not that big here.

    • Whitening products are definitely an Asian thing. They are usually Asian exclusives. You don’t get tanning stuff here much. I think many will run away if you tell them products will make them more bronze. Hahaha!

  • Liz

OKAY. Compliments from the Asian mom is the ultimate proof. LOL!

I’m not sure we have the whitening line here but I’m supposed to test some Clarins stuff in a bit. I’ve only ever purchased them for my mom in the past but have been noticing lately that their makeup is kind of interesting, too. πŸ™‚

    • I know, especially coming from my mom. Whitening line isn’t really a thing in Western region, and I am totally disappointed that we don’t get their makeup line here! I’ve been seeing so many hawt pictures of their makeup and I want me some! UGH! Then again… it might be a blessing in disguise πŸ˜›

      • Liz

WHAT! You don’t get their makeup? I’m supposed to review some in a bit. Sorry in advance. πŸ™

        • I know. It’s blasphemy!! But I love reading the reviews. Don’t get it here, but I love seeing the photos πŸ™‚

  • This sounds wonderful! I always forget about Clarins and move on to something new and upcoming, but Clarins always puts out great stuff. I’m glad you had great results with this a, I love their Multi Active Night Cream.

    • Multi Active Night Cream – check! I have to check it out πŸ™‚

I was in the midst of deciding between Shiseido, Clarins and Estee Lauder for my moistruiser and was actually very tempted to get the whitening range in Clarins. But I read from some beauty blogs that this range does not provide much hydration and is actually quite drying on the skin. I guess I should try a sample from this range to confirm if that is true for my skin. I have been trying a sample of the Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone Oil Free Moisturizer for the last 5 days and I must say that my skin looks really hydrated. Since I heard that Estee Lauder would be having some great offers if you purchase a certain amount of their products either beginning from 26 or 28 February onwards, I will be saving my money for that mosituriser πŸ™‚

    • My skin is normal / combination oily so I don’t have any problem with dryness. I don’t use the whole range, so that might have minimized the problem. I’m so happy the Advanced Tine Zone moisturizer worked for you! And yes, I always buy when there is promotion. I usually get it when there is 10% cash voucher promo πŸ™‚
