Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone Oil Free Moisturizer and My 2cents On Ageing

I don’t talk about moisturizers much, do I? I prefer to use up my moisturizers before changing them, that’s why reviews are few and scarce in between… unless I was sent something. Even that, I’d use it for 2 months to test it out, then go back to my old one to use it up, before coming back to the press sample to use it up. It’s a habit, and I think it’s a good habit 🙂 I usually use hydrating moisturizers like Estee Lauder Hydrationist Maximum Moisture Cream (which I just realised I haven’t talked about), so I was intrigued by Estee Lauder Advanced Tine Zone Oil Free Moisturizer.

It is said to lift the skin, has anti ageing properties and smooths out fine lines. I don’t have lines on my face, thanks to my skin type, but I do have enlarged pores around my nose area. This is an oil free formula, so I’m not worried about breakouts.

Most of Estee Lauder’s moisturizers are in jars, so I was really happy that this one comes in a bottle with a pump. It’s definitely more hygienic, and I don’t have to dip my fingers in the moisturizer every time. I am so anal that I actually scoop up some moisturizer into a must smaller jar, use that up, and scoop some in again. That way, the mother jar won’t be contaminated that easily. Yes. I know. Ssshhh….whatever it is, keep that thought in your head. So for this one, I don’t have to do that anymore and I’m a happy camper!

I find that this moisturizer keeps my face hydrated without leaving any residue on my face. I apply it all over my face as the last step of my skincare routine, then gently pat it in using my palms. The patting method reduces pulling and tugging on my face, and I find that products do absorb quite well. In the past 2 months, I have been using this but I can’t really tell you if lines are smoothened, since I don’t have any noticeable ones (ahem!). Given my age, it is something to boast about (AHEM!) LOL 😀 Pores are not enlarged, but they are not shrunk either. I give up on them.

I  find that this is actually more moisturizing than the Hydrationist moisturizer. I thought that was a little weird. Isn’t a hydrating moisturizer supposed to be more hydrating than an anti ageing moisturizer? My skin does feel more plump, more well rested, and more dewy. The texture of this moisturizer is gel like, and it has a cooling sensation as soon as it is applied. It does not make my face extra greasy during the day, thanks to its oil controlling properties.

Now my two cents on anti ageing products. I do not believe that lines can be smoothened in a short 2 weeks, or 2 months in fact. Lines are a sign of age, and we don’t stop ageing. If we did, we’re either a vampire, or just plain dead. I believe in starting young. Stick to a basic and simple routine of proper cleansing and moisturizing, and in time, when we get older, we hope to look our best at our age. It’s a blessing when people think we’re younger than we really are, but I don’t believe a certain cream will take 5 or 10 years off. I’m a skeptic at that. My fountain of youth is really laughter and happiness. When you’re happy, you look livelier, hence younger. And I digress. Off tangent. Completely.

Anyway, yeah… have you tried this moisturizer or any of the Estee Lauder’s range? This moisturizer works well on my skin. If you have similar skin condition, you should try it 🙂 I now have half a tub left of my Estee Lauder Hydrationist moisturizer (review up soon), and when I’m done, I’m going back to this. I think my skin prefers this. This moisturizer is now available at all Estee Lauder counters near you, selling at RM285.

  • Parita

I so loved your 2 cents on anti ageing 🙂 thanks for reviewing..will wait for Hydrationist review and then decide

    • Thanks Parita. I hope to get that review up by next month. 2 reviews on moisturizers in a month is so UNLIKE me. LOL!

  • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Love your thoughts on ageing! I agree to some point, but there are some ingredients that do soften lines like retinol or a Retin-a prescription. But yeah, saying something will make you look 10 years younger is ludicrous. My biggest advice for looking young is to stay out of the sun haha!

    • Oh yes, staying out of the sun AND applying loads of sunscreen. I do that every single day without a miss 🙂

  • Victoria

This looks very interesting although pretty expensive. Is the bottle you are using in 30 or 50 ml and could this be also used at night? Would you know how this moisturiser would rate against Shiseido’s Benefiance Wrinkle Resist 24? I am actually in the midst of of changing moisturisers hence the questions. Thanks for the review 🙂

    • Hi Victoria, this is a 50ml bottle and I use it day and night. I haven’t tried Shiseido’s, and the only moisturizer I’ve tried from their brand is from the White Lucent line. I hope you’ll be able to find one that suits you 🙂

  • I`ve been enjoying Estee Lauder skincare recently! I`ve been trying the eye cream from this line and I`m actually really impressed — it layers beautifully under concealer.

    • Good to know! I’ve always enjoyed using Estee Lauder ANR and some of their moisturizers. This oil free one is keeping my skin supple, which is good 🙂

  • A smile is the best anti-ager… Well said. And an awesome serum can help. I’m glad this is working well for you

    • Yes! I think serums are great. Its just that some people might think 1 bottle of serum or moisturizer will take years off. That’s why I believe starting young helps. If lines are already out and if skin is already sagging, creams and serums might not rewind time. That’s why some go under the knife >.<

  • I love the light and refreshing gel consistency of EL’s moisturizers. I tried one for oily skin and it was nice. I should really repurchase sometime…

    • Oh yes, I find that this moisturizer doesn’t make me greasy even in a really hot and humid day!

  • Starting young is definitely the way to go! I kinda want to try Advanced Night Repair, but so far I haven’t tried any skincare products from Estee Lauder. Hmm no that’s not true. I’ve got a generous sample of Idealist. While I like how “smooth” it makes my skin feel, I am not too fond of having silicone in my skincare products so that was left untouched after a couple of uses.

    • Oh, I tried the Idealist serum too. It was basically a bottle of silicones and mica. There were little shimmers and face felt really smooth. That one didn’t work for me. I didn’t break out from it, but I didn’t see any brightening effect either… The Advanced Night Repair is a must try. It works for so many people!

  • Claire

That may sound weird but I really like the packaging! 😉 glad you found a product that is working for you. Every EL face product I have tried broke me out and I didn’t see any changes in my skin overall. I know people who swear by this brand though. I think serums are more important than face creams, or at least this is working for me very well 🙂

    • Not weird. I like the packaging too 🙂 I’m sorry to hear that EL face product breaks you out! That’s so sad. I can’t imagine myself not being able to use the Advanced Night Repair serum 🙁 Oh, but it’s true about serums. I find that for me, they are more potent, and work better than creams.

  • Totally agree with you on the whole anti-aging issue. I simply don’t believe in any miracle product that can erase fine lines overnight.

    • I know right? But of course, I’d love for a brand to prove me wrong and shut me up completely. That would change everything, wouldn’t it? A face lift without knives or down time. Just 1 month of these creams and you’ll rewind time. Whoa! LOLOL!!!

  • hey! I just had a revelation 2 days ago on the same issue and was just gonna write about it! My skin has its flaws, so its easily under attack by beauticians, counter girls to point out its flaws that you can spot few miles away. So that has made me an easy sucker befallen under their preachings and critiques.

But I digress. Fundamentals are more important than the mambo-jambos. Lets age gracefully!

Happy New Year and Thanks for the post! I shall write my piece soon too.

    • Hi pondsandleaves, I guess that’s one of their sales pitch. If you feel insecure about yourself, you might buy a miracle cream to make yourself look better. Haha! Yes, I think while it’s important to take care of ourselves, we also must age gracefully. I know of some who go for cosmetic surgeries to lift their droopy lids, to fix their nose, to lift this, lift that, tuck this, tuck that… botox this, collagen that, sigh… and they end up looking similarly weird and taut.
Let’s embrace fine lines and when we’re 60, let’s embrace our wrinkles too.
Happy New Year to you and your family!
