This Lipstick Bandit Assignment Is Confusing: Corals!

Corals. Not the ones you find by the beach, but the colour. What is a coral shade? There are coral pinks, coral reds, true corals, whatchamacallit corals. I remember a little Twitter conversation with fellow Bandits Xiao and Larie and coral was described as pinkorangered. Instead of pink orange and red, I read Pink or Angered. That sounds about right >.< So in my opinion, corals are colours tinged with orange. But then again, how do I know if it’s orange or coral? Or maybe peach since peach is orange and pink, right? Hence the confusion. I don’t even know if this lipstick I’m featuring is considered coral. So keep your opinions to yourself because if anyone of you disagree with me, Larie promised to punch you in the face. HAHAHA! Also, I KNOW I’m not the only one confused. This will be interesting!

rouge coco shine

I don’t talk about Chanel lipsticks much, so I decided to tell you about one of my favourite shades, 46 Liberte. This is a Rouge Coco Shine which is supposed to be hydrating and sheer. The texture has a lot of slip, hence the moisturizing factor. It’s not unlike wearing a lighter lip balm, and if I were to compare, I’d say there is less slip more pigmentation than Clinique Chubby Sticks. Due to the texture, it doesn’t last too long on my lips. By the 3rd hour, I’d have to re-apply. However, this shade gives my face a lift in terms of colour.

Can you see the texture on my hand? It is buttery and smooth, and is very comfortable on my lips. The coverage is not opaque and my natural lip colour peeks through the layer of lipstick. It makes me look like I have soft puckered lips without the need of a gloss. While it looks obviously coral here, it’s another story on my lips. Here is how it wears on me.

This Chanel Rouge Coco Shine retails for RM95 which is at par with other brands like Dior and Shiseido. Do you like colours like this? A sheer coral that brightens the face, or do you prefer bright and bold ones that go ka-poow?? Do check out what my fellow bandits have for you! I know I definitely will, coz you know, I need to know what coral really is πŸ˜›

  • I’d definitely say that’s a coral! Great choice – I love the Rouge Coco Shines so much! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Annick. I’m glad I didn’t go too far off the coral chart. Haha!

  • LOL what is with all this confusion? I guess coral IS a bit like taupe. The color description has been so broad and misused in too many ways!

Anyways, Liberte looks great on you! I’m not too excited about the existing Rouge Coco Shines because they are quite sheer, but I was definitely swatching Liberte the other day. It doesn’t pull too coral on you, but it’s still adorable!

    • LOL! I guess it’s the description – there are just so many shades of coral but then again, I’m not confused with taupe. I mean, any colour that looks greyish can be called a taupe right? HAHAH!
Liberte is such an easy colour to wear and because it’s sheer, my natural lip colour shines through making it look more pink. So, this would be a coral pink then πŸ˜›

  • LOL so confusing indeed! But you picked a very pretty one and it looks great on you!

    • Thanks Mariella. I think after this Bandits post, I’m not so confused anymore. Yay Lipstick Bandits!!

  • Catherine (@bcrueltyfree)

“Pink angered” haha πŸ˜€ Corals really are a confusing shade, it gets used to describe so many shades… I think I’ve gotten in the habit of confusing coral with peach, which are totally different, I know. I think it was on Mostly Sunny where she showed a coral lipstick recently and described it as true coral and I was like… whoa, that’s so much darker than I was imagining, but totally right. But yes the color of this lipstick is like a true coral color… and the texture looks so so irresistibly smooth. And gorgeous on you!

    • OK, coral vs peach = even more confused me so let’s not go there. I am learning so much from this post, you know, having 12 other bandits showing me what coral is. I think it’s fantastic!!

  • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

I don’t get the confusion! Every colour has variations in it so i don’t get why coral angers people so much! I find it rather amusing actually hahaha! Anyways, this looks LOVELY on you! Corral looks GORGEOUS on you! I have two Coco Shines and I like them!

    • Tracy, you’re the coral guru! Love that colour chart you put in your post. I also take comfort that I actually chose a right shade for this post. Tracy approved! *stamp* YAY πŸ™‚

  • The way you did your makeup here is so beautiful and summery, Lily! I love it so much. Your lips look perfectly healthy without the gloss, too.

    • Thanks Arianne! Come to think of it, it does make my lips look healthier πŸ™‚

  • Nida Moughal

Thats a coral & looks wonderful on you…

    • Thanks Nida. Nice to see you here again πŸ™‚

  • Liz

Pretty! Now I want it. Never tried a Rouge Coco Shine. :<

    • YAY! Created a lemming πŸ™‚

  • I was actually eyeing Liberte, it’s such a pretty shade! I don’t get the confusing part of corals tho, I have this sensor built in me I guess, lol! Looking absolutely lovely Lily, Liberte is a great shade on you! ^^

    • I’ll get you to sniff out the corals next time, Teri. I could use some of that built in sensor. HAHA!

  • HAHAHAHA. That’s right, Lily, you tell ’em! I’ll back you up!

I think you chose a lovely, fresh, summery take on it!

    • For all I know, this is not coral but peach. People are just telling me it’s coral because they’re afraid you’d punch them in the face. HAHAHA!

  • Claire

haha, yes, some people should be punched πŸ˜› it’s makeup afterall and it should be fun, right? I gave this shade away, haven’t worn it enough but now I want it back *ugh* gorgeous shade on you dear, I really like your blush as well πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Claire. I’m really liking this Coco Shine compared to their Rouges. This is so much easier to wear. Comfortable too!

  • Ahh, I don’t know what coral is either.. Haha! This one looks about right and I must have it! It’s such a beautiful shade and lovely on you πŸ˜‰

    • Thanks Taylor. This might not be a bright coral, but I like that it’s so soft and I can pair it with anything.

  • Yes! Coral is totally the taupe of the pinkish/red world. In my book, though, LibertΓ© fits the bill perfectly … and it looks great on you.

    β™₯ Jessica

    • Thank you Jessica. I love this soft coral too πŸ™‚

  • “Larie promised to punch you in the face” hahaha well that’s one form of motivation! This is such a pretty shade on you, and I love love love the finish. Gotta get around to trying this formula someday.

    • I wouldn’t mess with Larie if I were you. HAHAHA! My lips love this formula. It’s a shame I have to reapply so often, but I don’t really mind. I might actually be able to use up a lipstick for once. LOL!

  • Oh I remember checking this one out but I can’t wear it because its too warm for me. It does look lovely on you and the texture of Rouge Coco Shines are lovely aren’t they? πŸ™‚

    • This is my only Coco Shine, and I really like the finish. If I didn’t have so many lipsticks, I might just get a few more!

  • Gorgeous, Lily! The texture looks amazing, so buttery.

    • Thanks Jen. This is great for every day wear. Just swipe and go πŸ™‚
