Long Overdue Review: Estee Lauder Hydrationist Maximum Moisture Creme

I know, I know. I’ve wanted to talk about this for months and months but I’ve been putting it off. Apologies for that. There seems to be more and more to talk about, and some things get left behind. It’s not that this isn’t good, but you know… makeup is more exciting. Haha!

The moisturizer I bought is for normal / combination skin. It comes in a tub, and truthfully, I’m not a fan of this sort of packaging. It means having to dip my fingers in the moisturizer, exposing the rest of the cream to air every time I use it! I am quite anal when it comes to this, so I always have a spatula handy. Also, I like to scoop a bit of cream into a small container and use that. Once I use it up, I’ll scoop some more. At least this huge jar won’t be contaminated so quickly. I know many people don’t bother, and some might look at me funny thinking what is wrong with me, but I’m just really icky like that. I feelย saferย in a way, even though everything is probably okay.

As you can tell from the texture, the cream is gel-like and very light. I love using it in the day in this tropical country of ours, but I find it’s not moisturizing enough for the evening because I sleep in an air conditioned room. I use a dollop (like photo below) to cover my entire face and neck and this amount is just right for the cream to be absorbed into skin. My skin feels very soft and silky, and foundation goes on smoothly too. I tried using more before I went to bed, but I didn’t like it. When I apply too much, the cream seems to sit on top of my face and it’s like a layer of silicones that I need to wash off. So what I do is apply it as I normally would, do my stuff, hang around watching TV or blog and then right before bed, I’d apply another thin layer. That way, my skin feels more comfortable.

I bought this a year ago so I don’t have the box to show you the ingredients. I know for sure there are ‘cones and alcohol as all Estee Lauder products do, but as a light moisturizer, I think this is ok. If you’re looking for more hydration and firming, I’d recommend the new Advancedย Time Zone moisturizer which I talked about before. My skin likes that one better ๐Ÿ™‚ I think younger skin will like this Hydrationist moisturizer. If you’re in colder and drier weather, I don’t think this is enough.

Have you tried this?

xoxo Lily

  • I have tried this and it has a lovely texture ๐Ÿ˜€ I actually really like it!

    • I think I’m getting older. I need something richer. That said, this is great for day use ๐Ÿ™‚

I have not tried it but yes my sister in law use it and likes it too.

    • Maybe you should give it a try one day. Perhaps sample your sister in law’s ๐Ÿ˜›

      • Nida Moughal

I plan to do that =p

  • Kiss & Make-up

Sounds alright, but I already know this is not right for my skin type.

    • I hope you’ve found one that your skin loves ๐Ÿ™‚

my skin is currently loving the clarins gel moisturizer! this one works well on my cousin though i dont like the smell..
i generally dont like EL smell..especially the signature fig… =(

    • Their moisturizers smell ok. Can’t stand their lipsticks though!

I think that I tried this but honestly can’t remember. Days of using Estee Lauder skincare was a long time ago. But when I do use moisturizer, I look for a simple fuss-free one that will keep the face from feeling dry. I treat with serums or masks or other topical things and keep the routine simple. This one sounds good if not exactly spectacular. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • You’re right. I prefer serums and masks for that extra oomph too!

  • In your photos, the texture looks very appealing, although I do know what you mean by a layer of silicones sitting on top of the skin with formulations akin to this. I wouldn’t mind a GWP featuring this product!

    • A thin layer is good though. I hope you’ll like it when you try it!

I am using this one for day use. It is ok, quite light for my combination skin. Yeah, I share the same gripe as you – having to dip my finger into the jar is a no no. I am using a spatula now. I had to hunt high and low for it as not many products come with a spatula. So far so good, though I think I will start to save up and look for a more economical moisturizer.

    • For more wallet friendly moisturizers, I suggest some French drugstore brands. I’ve read so many good things about them, I need to try them out myself ๐Ÿ™‚ We get RoC and Avene here, and La Roche Posay is available online.
