Finally! A Face Oil That Works For Me: Estee Lauder Nutritious Radiant Vitality Essence Oil

I used only a handful of face oils before. There was argan oil, rosehip oil and some mixture of face oils. For some reason, rosehip broke me out like crazy, and I could only tolerate argan oil if I used it sparingly, like maybe 2 or 3 times a week. I tried Eve Taylor face oils for congested skin many years ago, and I didn’t like it. So, naturally, I stayed away. I gave up! Bloggers talk about how great face oils are, but they’ve been bad experiences, almost all of them. That is, until now.

For those of you who are afraid of breakouts, I present to you, Estee Lauder Nutritious Radiant Vitality Essence Oil. First, let me just say that this oil is not oily. Nope, not at all. In fact, it feels like dry oil because once you applied it, it disappears in less than a minute. Now, that, my friends, is MY type of oil. Next is the fragrance. It smells sweet. There is a fruity smell that is described as pomegranate scent. It is quite strong, so if you’re not a fan of this scent, you’d be offended. I on the other hand, LOVE it! I squeeze a few drops onto my palms, warm it up by rubbing my palms together, then gently pat on my skin. Sometimes, I’d take a huge whiff of the scent before applying. However, fragrances can cause allergic reactions on certain skin types, so you might want to test it out before purchasing.

The dropper reminds me of L’Oreal Youth Code and what I don’t like about it is, I have to be very careful with it. I don’t have to press that ‘release button’ and the oil drips from the dropper. Why don’t we just use the ANR packaging but just change the brown bottle to red, Estee Lauder? That would be a better option. Furthermore, this bottle is tall and slim. Not the lowest centre of gravity there. If I was clumsy, I’d spill the precious oil inside. I usually use the oil after my serums before my moisturizer at night. If it’s a hot evening, I’d skip moisturizer completely and use this on its own. It is moisturizing enough if you have normal combination skin. I can’t say that for dry skin though. The oil is light and runny, as you can see in the picture below. Sometimes, I also like to mix a few drops into my moisturizer.

What it does to my skin is that it keeps my skin well moisturized. Would you also believe that it helps with calming down my skin? Whenever I have breakouts, I’d use this oil day and night and the little bumps will go away the next day! If it’s a huge bump, I’d use this after using the Nutritious Two Way Treatment (a mask) and by the next morning, the bump is no more than a flat red mark. I tried this a few times and trust me when I say I was pleasantly surprised. So when previous face oils broke me out, this one keeps breakouts at bay. How awesome is that?

This 30ml bottle costs RM240 and it is available at all Estee Lauder counters nationwide. Have you tried this? Do you like this? If not, do you use face oils?

xoxo Lily

  • Yup! I gotta try this one next! Most oils break me out too, so this sounds like something I can use! Great review!

    • THanks Tracy. I hope you’ll give this a try, and that you’ll like it too ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Liz

I have a few oils on my radar – had no idea Estee Lauder had one. Don’t think I’d like the smell of this though. :<

    • Yeah, that scent, you’ll either love it or hate it ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hey Lily, I’m glad to hear this works so well for you! I was kinda excited about this (as I am about all oils) till I read the ingredient list, and I just don’t think I’ll appreciate the cone in it! I am not allergic to silicone, but I really dislike how it feels on the skin. I’m afraid this is not for me!

    • I know you love face oils, Sunny. I didn’t have the ingredients list (sent to me without the box) and after googling, I found it. Yeah, too bad about silicones, but I’m usually not too fussed. I do get put off when the texture is just like fillers, but these are OK ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Kay

I love this as well! The BA gave me a sample and I’m still using it after a week. I use this in the morning after my toner because i like the “glowy” effect it has on my makeup. This face oil texture is similar to the kiehl’s midnight recovery concentrate which Paris B also reviewed before (and I love that too! Finishing up the last of second bottle!) but the scent is completely different. Kiehl’s MRC have a strong lavender scent and is very calming. Two drops is sufficient for MRC after toner at night, whereas EL’s face oil require 3-4 drops. Maybe you can check that out!

    • Hi Kay, I’ve read about the Kiehl’s MRC from a few bloggers and I’ve been curious ๐Ÿ™‚ Maybe I’ll give that a try after I’m done with this. However, I love this because it actually calms down my face bumps if there are any. It’s awesome!

  • Kiss & Make-up

Very interesting! With my skin type I find it hard to find a face oil that works too. This one sounds lovely!

    • Hey Melissa, if you end up giving it a try, I hope you’ll like it!

  • This is so tempting! I’m going to see if I can get a sample of this or have a little bit of it in a container to try a few nights first. I love oils but I’m not sure about the cones.

    • Well, if the cones don’t break you out and the oil makes your face look more radiant, I say just go with it. Lol!

  • Aww look at that sweet little hand! I’m so glad to hear you found an oil that works well for you! I always find those droppers don’t ever do what they’re supposed to :-/

    • Yes, finally! An oil that works so will on my skin. You know, Ashlyn stuck her hand in just as I dropped the oil so I used hers instead. Lol!

  • Iยดve only ever used cleansing oils on my face, never a “moisturizing” oil because I was being afraid it would make me oilier and break me out. But your review of this quite impresses me and maybe I should try one!

    • Oh yay! Maybe you SHOULD try one, and then let me know how it works for you ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Claire

I love face oils! EL never has worked for me for some reason but this oil is on my to try list now. From the picture I can tell that I like the consistency, now lets see how it will work and feel on my skin. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Awesome, Claire! I hope you’ll give it a try and that you’ll like it ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I have only tried primrose oil and argan oil. argan oil didn’t work for me, either. i’have had better result primrose but I guess I need something that is for both hydrating sealing the moisture. maybe this is it! thanks for your review. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Hi Lena, this might be it, indeed! I hope it works for you too, because I’m delightfully surprised that this oil actually did wonders to my skin ๐Ÿ™‚
