FOTD: What I Wore To High Tea The Other Day

Really. I couldn’t think of a more straight forward title. LOL! I blame the late night writing, and the extremely polluted air that has been messing with my mind, eyes and nose. If you’re not from around here, you may or may not know that we have a really bad haze problem. It is from the smoke that blew toward our country, from some neighbouring country that likes to play with fire every year. People with asthma get more frequent attacks, and I get pretty bad allergic reaction, since my nose is sensitive. Rant over.

There was a function over high tea on Sunday, and I decided to wear something I like to call soft smokey. Everyone can wear it because it’s brown and neutral, and it is flattering on everyone! Here are the products I used:

Firstly, I used Dior Radiant Base all over my face before applying some concealer where I needed it. I contoured using Bobbi Brown Summer Tan and prepped my cheeks with Pale Pink as a base. I swept a setting powder from Lunasol all over my face before using Dior Paradise Duo Pink Glow on my cheeks. That’s it for my face. Quite simple, really. I filled in my brows with Bobbi Brown brow kit and used Bobbi Brown Nude Beige on my lips.

Now for the smokey eyes. I used Urban Decay Wasteland as a base before using the vintage DiorΒ Impression Cuir Leather Couture For The Eyes. There are 3 shades, a dark sooty brown, a shimmery bronze and a midtone beige. With the dark brown, I applied it all over my lids on top of Wasteland. With the lightest shade which is a midtone beige, I applied it at the inner corners of my eyes. Using the middle shade which is a light bronze, I blended out harsh edges and used the same shade on my lower lash line. I lined my bottom lash line with Benefit Eye Bright to brighten up the area. Instead of using a black liner, I chose to use grey on my upper lash line. To finish the look, I applied 3 coats of mascara on curled lashes and I’m done.

Here is the final look:

Necklace: Shopbop

I have been wearing DiorΒ Impression Cuir Leather Couture For The Eyes a lot, and this is one of my go to smokey eyes of late. Also, I’ve been loving my new necklace! It is quite heavy on my neck, but I don’t have anything like it. I have a lot of monotones in my wardrobe, and I wear blacks and greys a lot, so this helps break the boring. I hope you liked today’s look. I have a couple more for you because I’ve been getting bored of reviews. Stay tuned!

xoxo Lily

  • Ooooh, gorgeous, Lily! I really like how the gold eyes turned out! And your necklace is marvelous! Where is that jewelry post??? πŸ˜‰

    • Thanks Larie. It’s coming, that jewelry post! HAHAH! I think I’ll have a short series called Accessorize It. First one is scheduled on Thursday. Now, to get my photos taken…

  • I have heard about the haze problem, and I’m terribly sorry your effected. I truley hope it clears up sooner than later. Onto the look, I love it! That Dior pallete is so gorgeous, oh but the link didn’t work for me. Also that necklace is so beautiful! A lovely look for tea πŸ™‚

    • I truly hope so too! The haze is bugging me. And Taylor, which link doesn’t work for you? I checked all the links and they popped up in another window nicely. I love the necklace too (albeit it being really heavy on the neck). It definitely dresses up a simple outfit πŸ™‚

  • UGGGH. That haze must be awful! Sometimes we get smoky air because of forest fires, and I hate when that happens. Chokes!
You look lovely Lily! Your smoky eyes are THE BEST.

    • Whenever we can, we just lock ourselves in the house with air condition and air purifier on full blast. We’re still in the green zone, thank goodness, so while it’s annoying to someone prone to allergies (me!), it’s not hazardous to health just yet. Not in my area anyway.
And thanks Tracy. I love smoky eyes, just not smoky skies >_<

  • Oh YOU CLASSY LADY YOU. High tea is my favorite pastime when I’m in Taiwan, it’s a little too pricey over here so I only go occasionally. Love this look on you, it’s gorgeousss with your top & necklace. And I heard about the haze problem, eek! Hope it clears up soon.

    • Taiwan! One of the places I need to visit one day πŸ™‚ Thanks MM. I got a few compliments on my outfit that day (YAY!). And I do hope the haze clears up soon too. A heavy rain might do the job…

  • Nida Moughal

You look gorgeous plus the necklace is so pretty.

    • Thank you Nida πŸ™‚

  • You are looking so pretty. I really liked the eye makeup. <3

    • Thanks Sahrish <3

  • I really love this look on you! Smokey brown is something that I’ve been struggling a long time. Will try to recreate this look.

    • Yes, do give it a try, Joanne! I’d love to see your version of it πŸ™‚

  • sataa

You look gorgeous!! I love the eye makeup this smoky brown eye combination is so pretty.I am learning lots of wearable eye shadow combinations from you πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Sataa. I’m glad you’re enjoying the looks πŸ™‚

  • Oh Lily, this is so pretty! I love you color selection. Sorry about the air I hope it improves soon, we usually get a few smog allerts during summer here. We try to stay indoors but that’s not always possible.

    • Thanks Icaria. We had some rain just now, but it wasn’t enough to clear the air. Go away haze!

  • OOO my God this is SOOOO pretty!!! So bummed that I never learnt about Impression Cuir till it’s way too late! It’s so incredibly pretty!

    • The palette is beautiful! The eye shadow texture is more powdery than the quints nowadays, but they still wear very well. The palette is still available on strawberrynet if you’re interested. The colours are very beautiful.

  • Catherine @ bcrueltyfree

This is going in my Evernote “makeup inspiration” file, I must recreate! Just completely stunning! I love the exact shade of bronzy olivey greyish brown, I’ll have to mix some shades to achieve it. Your brows look great too πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Catherine. I’d LOVE to see how you recreate it πŸ™‚

  • Liz

You look GORGEOUS. Love the eyes, the necklace, the top! I want you to come over and give me smokey eyes. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

    • Thanks Liz. I can either come visit, or you come here to visit! It must be one of those things to do….

  • BooBooNinja

I need to get makeup lessons from you. You look great.
On another note — LOOK AT THAT PAN!!!

    • Thanks my dear. I hit pan on 2 powders. It’s awesome πŸ™‚

  • Honey

You know Lily, I’ve never really quite get the hype about expensive make up. Everytime I read blogs or youtube videos that raved about brands like Dior or Shiseido or Guerlain etc, I go “Really?”.

Well, that is now changed forEVER! I just had a makeover at Dior and OMG do I love how my complexion looked! The subtle effects of highlight and textured eyeshadows….wow! The MUA is gooood! Anyway, I think the one product that made the difference is the Radiant Base. I had to walk away without purchasing anything but I do think I’m going back to the counter soon πŸ™‚

    • I know exactly what you mean, Honey. I used to think, 4 drugstore eye quads or 1 Dior quint? I could get those 88 eye colours for less than RM100 but 1 Dior eye shadow costs more than that. I went through that phase, and trust me… I bought those cheaper ones, then I bought the more expensive ones and now, I think I know what my skin needs. There really is a difference, so now I’m more of quality over quantity πŸ™‚ You should get the Radiant Base. It does amazing things to the skin!

  • I love a brown smokey eye! It’s so well-suited for any occasion – even high tea! An activity I’ve only read about in books. Sounds cool!! πŸ™‚

    • Brown smokey eyes are definitely versatile. High tea is, well, high tea. LOL! Cool or not depends on the company, really. HAHAHA!
