Sunday Stash Shopping #11

We’re doing minimal makeup today. I have been wearing this look to work, and I find that bright lips brighten the whole face, even with mascara and blush only! I have been wearing some work clothes with colours too, and while this goes especially well with warm colours like green and mustard, it also works when paired with blue. If basics like black, grey and white are your thing, this immediately perks up your face. All you need is to even out your skin, frame your face by filling in your groomed brows, apply 2 coats of mascara on curled lashes and a warm blush.

I have been having good skin days for a while (ahem, jinx go away please!), and I’ve been enjoying foundation free days. Even my skin is less clogged, perhaps due to less products on my face? I can’t be sure. It’s probably due to a combination of the right skin care, better diet and regular exercise. I’ve been able to get away with concealer under my eyes and at the sides of my nose, set with myΒ Guerlain MeteoritesΒ which gives a subtle glow but no coverage. I don’t mind showing some freckles on my cheeks, so I never bothered covering them up.

I fill in my brows with my Shu Uemura H9 brow pencil, curl my lashes with my Lunasol lash curler and apply 2 coats of mascara. For blush, I sometimes use my Dior Rose Brazilia and at other times, my Chanel Frivole. The one product that gets the attention is the lip product. I have been enjoying Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Heftiest Hibiscus. On me, it’s a bright coral, orange with a hint of red. Compared to my nude fave which is Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Curviest Caramel, Heftiest Hibiscus is less moisturizing, but applying my Dior Lip Maximizer first fixes it. Sometimes, I sheer it out then layer Dior Papillon gloss on top and it’s just as pretty.

Here’s a before photo, with only the lip maximizer on my lips. Still ‘meh’, even with blush and mascara.

Then, I apply Heftiest Hibiscus opaque and ka-pow! In your face, baby! (in a good way, of course)

If bright lips ain’t your thang, then use your ring finger to sheer out the lipstick and apply a nude gloss over it for a softer look.

Likey?

I’ve been enjoying bright lips lately because it gets me out the door fast, and I don’t have to worry about makeup meltdown. All I need for touch ups is this lipstick and we all know it’s easy to swipe and go πŸ™‚ Hope you enjoyed this look!

  • Heftiest Hibiscus, RAWR. I love it, Lily! I love these fresh faces lately – that’s what I’ve been doing a lot this summer, too.

    • It’s easy and hassle free while looking bright and cheerful. Love it!

  • Love this color on you! I also enjoy wearing bright lip pies with only mascara and some neutral blush or bronzer. Love bright corals or fuchsia lipsticks for this purpose πŸ™‚

    • Hi Jangsty! Thanks for dropping by πŸ™‚ I have yet to try fuchsia lips but I’m on a look out for one that doesn’t clash with my skin tone. I’ve also been loving bolder darker colours like plums and berries. Sexy!

  • You go, Lily! Good skin days rock! I like how much a good lip shade can do. It instantly brings me back to life LOL

    • Yay for good skin days for sure! You’re right too. Brighter colours definitely bring life to the face instantly πŸ™‚

  • Your skin is AMAZING! You look so fresh and glowy Lily! LOVE it. I’ve been trying to get away with minimal makeup too, but something broke me out the other day….grrrr….hahaha!

    • Thanks Tracy. I think that glow might be from Teint Rose πŸ™‚ Hate it when those zits do their guerrilla attacks. Zap them, Tracy. Kill ’em all. LOL!

  • Liz

Heftiest Hibiscus looks fantastic on you!

How’s the Lunasol curler compared with Shiseido and Shu Uemura? I prefer Shiseido over Shu and need a replacement.

    • Thanks Liz-bob! You know, I haven’t tried Shiseido or Shu Uemura lash curlers before >.< My first curler was by Bobbi Brown, and compared to this, BB is curvier, Lunasol is flatter. Let's just say I don't have to work the Lunasol lash curler, and there isn't any learning curve either. Easy to use πŸ™‚

  • Love this look on you and your skin is gorgeous! Isn’t it great when you don’t feel the need to cover up, when it optional? I’ve been going minimal all summer and it felt great not to fuss. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Helene. It’s Helene, right? And yes, good skin makes everything simpler – of course, a good foundation does make heck of a difference, but when I’m pressed for time, I know I can skip my base routine (save concealer).

  • Your skin looks so radiant! You’re glowing! πŸ™‚

    • Aww, thanks Isabelle πŸ™‚

  • Honey

Your skin looks great! Lucky you :). I can’t look like that even on my best of the best skin days. sigh…..

    • Thanks Honey, and you’re probably being humble. I’m definitely enjoying it while it lasts though πŸ™‚

  • Love your freckles! And bright lips are definitely my thang so I’m all over Heftiest Hibiscus. Such a stunner of a shade πŸ™‚

    • I bet Heftiest Hibiscus will look great on you!!

  • Just gorgeous! I’m back into bright lips so I’m loving this sort of look right now πŸ™‚

    • Bright lips all the way. It’s an instant perk to the face πŸ™‚

  • Hi Lily! This minimalist make up look is just what I’ve been doing lately too πŸ™‚ Some (blue… goodness knows how that came about, I never wore that until recently) eyeliner, mascara, cream blush and a Clinique chubby stick for the lips. Voila! I love how the Heftiest Hibiscus looks on you, it really brightens up the look. So much that I’ll be checking it out!

    • Blue liners are gorgeous. They make your eyes look brighter. And yes, you have to check out Heftiest Hibiscus. In fact, I’m wearing it again right now πŸ™‚
