Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood Collection: Lip Color and High Shimmer Lip Gloss

I just talked about the eye palette a couple of days ago, and I thought I’d complete the collection with lip products today instead of delaying it for another week. There are 2 items I want to show you and they are a Limited Edition Old Hollywood Lip Color (RM98) and also a Limited Edition High Shimmer Lip Gloss (RM88).

The regular Bobbi Brown Lip Color is housed in a black case but this limited edition Old Hollywood one is housed in an elegant gold case. I thought it looked really cool but be warned it attracts all sorts of prints 😛 There is only one shade of Lip Color in this collection and the shade name is Old Hollywood. Bobbi Brown describes it as a timeless retro red and to me, it is a warm bright tomato red with a bit of sheen. I remember loving Bobbi Brown lipsticks but I stopped purchasing them because my experience was that they started to smell funny after about a year. Bobbi Brown Lip Colors are opaque in finish without drying the lips. Old Hollywood is very pigmented and after a huge meal and wiping off the lipstick with tissue, there is still a healthy red stain. On me, it wears a good 4 hours before fading and I assume it’d wear well longer than that, but I wouldn’t know because I’ll usually wipe off then re-apply around that time. Bold reds like this usually wear a long time anyway!

If you need to know how to apply bolder red lip colour, do head on to this post for a step by step tutorial.

The lip gloss is less sticky than I remembered and the shade I have here is Candlelight. The other 2 limited edition shades are Rose and Pure Gold. I prefer to use this gloss on top of my regular lipsticks for an extra shine, because if I wear this alone, I look washed out.

In the photo above, I compared how Old Hollywood looks to other reds, and as you can see, it is brighter and warmer than most. Here is how it looks on me:

I didn’t wear the Candlelight High Shimmer Lip Gloss because it changed how the red looks in the photo. The shimmer caught all the light and made the red look more orange, for some reason. I like to use Candlelight by patting it in the middle of my bottom lip for that 3D effect 🙂 If you’re a fan of or looking for warmer red lipsticks that don’t make your teeth look yellow, Old Hollywood is a good bet!

  • Wow! Now that’s a red! Love it on you!!! The gloss looks so pretty but I would have to check since I do think I have a similar one.

    • It’s a great red indeed, Helene 🙂 It will attract all the flies. LOL!

  • I have to agree with you about the gold packaging. I like it too, but I can’t use BB lippies. They dried up my lips. I love the colour, though!

    • Aaw, sorry to hear that, Liyuen. BB lipsticks aren’t drying on my lips, thank goodness 🙂

  • Oooh, that’s a really pretty red shade! And somehow I prefer this gold packaging rather than the normal black one – makes it look more elegant to me. 🙂 For the lip gloss, I’d probably pick Rose. 😀

    • The gold is definitely more elegant 🙂 I haven’t seen the other shades. Might check them out this weekend.

  • Liz

You need to wear red lips more often – love!!!

    • Really? Thanks Liz <3

  • You look amazing in red lips Lily! I can’t wear them anymore! Clashes with the hair too much!

    • LOL – that’s the thing about having dark brown hair. I can wear any colour! Yay! LOL 🙂

  • Hey Lily, what a pretty lipstick! I kinda wish companies would stop making clear glosses speckled with gold shimmer this time of the year. I already have a tube or two, and they look kinda… identical to me! But then again I am very biased. I can have more reds, and you won’t hear me complain about it!

    • Ah, then again Sunny, I think you’re right. It’s more difficult to tell between those glosses, but reds, you can’t have too many variation!

  • I love red lipsticks and this one looks amazing!

    • Thanks for dropping by Kirti. Red lipsticks are classics!

  • My gosh you look so beautiful with a dramatic red lip, Lily. Am I the only person around here that CAN’T pull off a red lip? Sheesh! 😛

    • Thanks Becca. You’re always too kind 🙂 Everyone can pull off a red lip! Maybe you’re the only one who can’t get used to seeing yourself wearing red. That’s how I felt in the beginning. All you need is attitude. Trust me!

  • That is a beautiful red on you, Lily!
I wouldn’t wear that shimmer gloss over any dark lippies, actually. The thought of stained doe foot applicator makes me shudder. LoL

    • LOL, ah, I have that problem too. So, I like to swab it on my finger, then dab it onto my lips 🙂

  • This red is looking amazing on everyone! It’s a really classic shade!

    • You’re right, Larie. I imagine it looking super sexy against your red hair!

  • I’ve been testing this out too. I love the red lipstick. Feels amazing on doesn’t it? It looks great on you.

    • Thanks Michelle. Yes, it does feel amazing. A versatile red for different skin tones too 🙂

  • I think that red looks so utterly glamorous Lilly!

    • I think so Sofia! It has to, since it’s Old Hollywood after all 🙂
