Sunday Stash Shopping #18: Blues

BLUES! Today, we’ll be playing with blues. I created 2 looks for you today, one is more dramatic than the other, and I hope you’ll like them πŸ™‚

face products

For the face, I used Chanel Vitalumiere Hydra in B10 before setting it with powder. I don’t really like this cream foundation because it sits on top of my skin and just looks really unnatural. I had to warm my hands and pat my face so that the product will sink in. I tried applying it with my fingers, and also buffing it in with my brush. My skin doesn’t like it. Tarte Frisky is a pigmented bright pink, and I needed to make sure I use a fluffy brush so I won’t have super flushed cheeks.

eyes MAC

For the first look, I used MAC Vanilla (cracks due to rough depotting) to highlight my brow bones, Coquette (dropped the bugger. I’m clumsy) to fill in my brows and Tempting on my lids. These are the few MAC eye shadows I’m keeping. Tempting has great texture, Vanilla is great to highlight brows and Coquette is the perfect shade for my brows! I then used a blue from Dior Bleu de Paris palette to line my lash lines. Blue makes eyes look whiter, and it complements bronzes very well.Β Here’s how it looks.

look1 look2

For a more dramatic look, I used Dior Fusion Cosmos* as a base, then Dior Bleu de Paris* on my eyes. I might have used Coquette on the hollow of my eye socket, but I can’t remember if I did >_< Erm and yeah, I know you guys with super sharp eyes will notice – I de-potted some Dior eye palettes as well. I’m reckless, I know! A large Z palette can hold 8 Dior palettes, in case you were wondering. Heh.

products eyes

(Numbering is in the photo above, Bleu de Paris palette) 1 is used on the lids on top of Cosmos, then I darkened the outer corners with 2, and lined the lashes with 3. Using 4, I just pat this at the centre of my lids. Here’s how it looks:

look4 look3

Oh, on the lips, I used Dior lipstick in Tulip Pink. How do you like these looks? Which one do you like better? I find that blue eye shadows make the brown in my eyes show up better. I can work with these blues, but some shades of blue look muddy and ashy on me. This Dior palette is the only blue palette that works well on me. Do you wear blue eye shadows? Did I manage to pull it off?

xoxo Lily

  • That’s it! I need the Bleu de Paris! I have vintage Dior quint with blues and greys so I was going to pass, but this look so gorgeous on you!!
    Love your smile. πŸ™‚

    • Hi Lena, thanks and Bleu de Paris is the way to go!! The blues are very wearable and they look great on πŸ™‚

  • LAHV!
I adore blues and pairing with warm tones is also my fave way to moderate them. In a similar vein I’d love to see a combo of the two looks — like a rich navy smokey eye with gold highlights rather than the silvery light blue in the Dior quint? πŸ˜€

    AND depot porn! <3 ILYSM.

    • Ah what a great idea, Kate! Smokey blues with a pop of gold – I’ll try it <3

  • I love blues and even though I have blue eyes I wear them all the time. I think besides taupes, blues are my faves! Love the looks!

    • Thanks Tracy. I don’t wear blues enough but when I do, I usually go with the first look πŸ™‚

  • Smokey eyes and blues are made for YOU!!!! I LOVE the 2nd look on you!!!! (my exclamation marks, just in case you didn’t hear me :-p) too bad, you didn’t like the cream foundation from Chanel. My skin somehow likes cream foundation a lot, so far…..

    • HAHAHA! Thanks for showing your enthusiasm πŸ™‚ I’m not sure about this Chanel one, but I do like the Bobbi Brown cream foundation…

  • I love both looks! You’re inspiring me to give blue a try — and to also shop my collection and use the very same MAC shadows. I neglect them alot and they are lovely. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Oh, thanks and I hope you’ll give it a try, Michelle πŸ™‚

  • I don’t really wear coloured eyeshadow much but your second look is so lovely that I may just change my mind and try a blue look sometime!

    • Then you should try it… perhaps blog about it too? πŸ™‚

  • Both the looks are gorgeous! Tempting eyeshadow is very pretty! and absolutely loving the Tarte blush <3

    • Thanks Parita. Tempting is one of the better MAC eye shadows I’ve used πŸ™‚

  • Bella

What very pretty, yet wearable blue looks. I don’t wear coloured eyeshadows (except for purple and plum) at all really, but I may try this.
I love your stash shopping posts! It’s what distinguishes a blog from a random magazine or parfumerie brochure full of press releases. And you do them so well. Keep ’em coming :).

    • Aaw, thanks Bella πŸ™‚ Stash shopping is really a way for me to rediscover all my stuff. It does add a personal touch to reviews only. LOL!

  • LOOOOOVE both looks! You definitely pull blue off well! I personally still wouldn’t consider it my favorite eyeshadow shade, but I can pull some off!

    • Some blues definitely complement our skin tone πŸ™‚ What would your favourite e/s shade be? For me, it would be those easy to wear types like bronzes or taupes πŸ™‚

  • Ooh! I really like them both! I like the subtle blue on the lower lash line for fancy-ing up a day-at-work eye look and the smokier blue for an evening out. Or a Friday, lol! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Kristen. I think the first look can be worn anywhere and is definitely work appropriate πŸ™‚

  • You pulled it off beautifully Lily! I have a weird relationship with blues and because my eyes are green I tend to go more towards purples. In the Bleu de Paris palette I guess I could get away with either 2 and/or 3 but it would have to be with a neutral base like a cool taupe. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Helene. I guess I’m lucky having dark brown eyes. I don’t have to worry about eye colour shadows πŸ˜›

  • I love how both looks look on you! I’ve been wearing blue liner this year and love dark blue shadow but haven’t got around to getting one (nor trying a dark blue eye look), after seeing this, I must!

    • Oh blues make eyes seem more awake. Love blue liners. I like using it on my lower lash line πŸ™‚

  • Ack, ack, ack! So pretty! I’m a sucker for blues and greens on eyes…love them every time!

    • These blues aren’t too bad at all πŸ™‚

  • Yay blue! My favorite eyeshadow color after years of being terrified of it. Love both looks you did, but I think #1 is my favorite. Haven’t thought to wear blue like that before, will have to give it a go soon. Looks gorgeous on you!

    • Lily

Yes, I remember you saying blue is your favourite colour πŸ™‚ I love wearing Look 1 and would love to see it on you too, MM!

  • Liz

LOVE!!! I need you to do my eyes so badly. LOL And OMG at the depotted Diors. I can’t and won’t ever, hahaha!

    • Lily

HAHAHAHA! I know some people will think me crazy depotting Diors, but I need the space. LOL! I’d LOVE to play makeup with you. You either come here, or I go to you. ONE DAY we must do it!

  • Shu Ting

The blue look is so pretty on you! Sexy smoky! Me love! πŸ˜€

    • Lily

I was on a ‘blue’ phase at that time. I’m on a pink blush pink lips phase now. LOL!
