Review: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

Is the hype over yet? Remember when everyone was talking about this concealer? Yeah, I was one of them who just HAD to try it. And I did. Has it been nearly a year already, since its launch? I can’t remember. All I know is, while it was hyped up, the claims were legit. This concealer IS awesome. I took my time to write about this. I wanted to post this ages ago, but I thought that it would be so redundant to repeat what the rest have already said. Now that the hype has died down, I’d like to share with you what I like about the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer.

radiant concealer 1

First of all, it’s a liquid concealer that applies very easily. Gone were the days when I bought concealers in a pot. I like to just dab the concealer under my eyes and around my nose, and wherever else I need it, blend then set with powder. Hassle free, fast, simple. I like that while this concealer is creamy, it doesn’t feel heavy. It sinks into the skin like second skin and it actually stays there until I remove it. Granted, I don’t wear makeup more than 8 hours nowadays, but for a concealer to stay more than 5 hours in this hot and humid weather? It’s already a winner.

There is also a wide variety of shades to choose from. I am between Vanilla and Custard but opted for Custard instead. I would get Vanilla once this runs out. Custard actually looks more peach on me, but the shade is pretty good to counter my dark circles. Vanilla will be a better match to cover redness around my nose, but I’m not too fussy. I have other concealers. Sometimes, I’d mix Custard with another concealer of a lighter shade, and that also works. Also, the difference on my face is minimal.

For scientific purpose, I tried applying this on top of powder and it was perfectly fine. Well, the truth is I applied powder first, then figured I really needed some concealer. LOL! Below is to show you the texture of the concealer. It is not a lightweight concealer. It’s not so thick that it clings to every line on your face, but nice enough to offer medium to full coverage.

Here is to show you the coverage of this concealer. On the left is my bare face after skincare. I just dabbed the concealer where there’s darkness or redness. The photo on the right shows you the effect of the concealer – no powder or anything else on top of the concealer.

NARS concealer

Is there anything I don’t like about it? Yeah, the shade I want is always out of stock online. There is only 1 store in this country, making it pretty inconvenient for anyone not living in KL. Is this a Holy Grail material? Well, if I must say so, no. I found a pretty good drugstore one in Revlon Colorstay Concealer, the only problem being the limited shade selection. The lightest shade available here (Light Medium, I think) works fine, so I might repurchase that once I’m done with all my current concealers. All I really need is undereye concealer, so a slightly darker shade than my skin tone is not a problem. In fact, if I go lighter, it might look ashy 🙂

What’s your current concealer in rotation? Do you have a HG or favourite to share?

xoxo Lily

I like this concealer, probably one of the best I’ve used. But I hardly bother wearing concealer because it’s an extra step and I’m kinda a lazy makeup noob these days.

    • Lily

Howadays, if I wear concealer, I’d skip foundation, and if I wear foundation, I’d skip concealer. LOL!

  • Not sure if I’d name it my HG concealer, but I’ve been using the Zero Kuma concealer for a couple years now and it works okay for me. 😀

    • Lily

I haven’t heard of that before! Where do you get it?

      • You can get it at SaSa. It’s one of the Japanese brands that launched together with K-Palette (i think they’re under the same company).

        • Lily

Thanks for the info, Laura 🙂

  • I’ve never tried this, I was already overexhausted by all the hype by the time it came to Canada. I’m currently using Fusion Illumicover and Cle de Peau! For me, if it’s the right colour, I’ll find a way to make it work!

    • Lily

I’ve heard some mixed reviews of Cle de Peau. I was curious at one point, but I realized I don’t need much coverage at the moment, so getting more concealers is quite silly 😛

      • Hahaha, I LONG for the day I don’t need more coverage. For my skin I need that level of coverage until I can lift away some of the acne scarring. Til then, I continue to be concealer OBSESSED.

        • Lily

I used to have marks from some pimples but I used the Diorsnow skincare range, especially the day and night serum and the marks were gone!

          • I think I remember you reviewing that range! I didn’t need it at the time, but oh – how things have changed LOL

            • Lily

I stand my ground that it’s the best brightening range I’ve tried – and I tried many 😛

  • I am using the one from MAC Pro Longwear. I wanna try this to know which is better! But I hope to find a right shade for me. Sometimes, I suck at that area. Heehee. Have a lovely day!

    • Lily

Hi Laarni, yes, definitely try the colours on yourself if you can. It sucks to purchase a shade online only to find it doesn’t work 🙁

  • Rosie

I have the same problem as you, in between vanilla and custard. I really thought from online swatches and reviews that custard would be good as it looks yellow toned but it turns orange on me! A bit awkward walking around with orange dots on my face. Does the revlon concealer crease on you? I find the nars creases very minimally on me hence why I was reluctant to purchase the revlon. And you’re right the revlon colours in malaysia is severely limited and the lightest one is not as light as I would like.

    • Lily

Hi Rosie, thanks for commenting. The Revlon concealer doesn’t crease on me at all. Comparatively, this NARS one is a little thicker than Revlon and because of that, provides more coverage.

  • Being on the road for 3 weeks in the heat, and even using sunscreen-my concealers didn’t match so I bought one shade darker in THIS one. Honey I think? Anyways, I agree-it’s pretty freakin’ awesome stuff.

    • Lily

A pretty good concealer in general 🙂 If I had to choose though, I’d prefer something even more lightweight!

  • Bella

On rotation for the undereyes I have this one (shade Ginger), Laura Mercier Secret Concealer, and Diorskin Nude concealer. Oh, I just bought the new Tom Ford Concealing pen too, but I haven’t used it yet. For rest of face I can also use Nars, but I also like Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.

    • Lily

Oh, I used to use the Diorskin Nude concealer. When I had more blemishes, I loved the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. I love that it’s drier so it covers perfectly without slipping. I hit pan in a few years, but had to finally toss it. It’s been in my stash for too long 🙂

  • Hey Lily, this is amazingly brightening on you! I’m retiring mine because I’ve owned it for quite a while now, and it is getting too dry. I am impressed by the staying power and coverage, but it does sink into fine lines I didn’t know I have. I am on Diorskin Star now, and that one doesn’t! Let me play with it for a couple more days and write about it 🙂

    • Lily

Hey Sunny, can’t wait for your review! I think they’ve launched the Diorstar foundation and concealer here already and I was told to wait for the press sample. I can’t wait to try it for myself!

  • Claire

this is one of the best intros I’ve read, lol. love that haha. I used that ellis faas thing, but the packaging was driving me nuts (after three of those pens I haven’t even used up the whole product and that click pen thing broke or was deffect), burberry was nice as well. now am using armani maestro, couldn’t be happier, looks like skin, last the whole day. don’t know what the magic is because it has alcohol but is not drying.

    • Lily

Oh, I’ve heard that the Armani Maestro is good. Too bad it’s not available here, so I wouldn’t know what shade I am. I’d love to try it out 🙂

  • Wowzers that’s a power horse concealer on you! I loved this when I first got it during its launch, but for some odd reason my skin just stopped liking it, and it would cake like crazy on me. Maybe it’s a seasonal thing, must try it out again when my skin isn’t so finicky!

    • Lily

I have the same problem with foundations. They’d work great for a while then they might not work later. It’s more of my skin condition though, I think!

  • OK I’m convinced, Lily, LOL. I am using some MAC concealers that I like right now, but I think I will get Custard (or Vanilla – I think I am the same shade as you normally) when I’m done.

    • Lily

Custard is great for dark circles if your skin tone is similar to mine 🙂

  • Jaa

I bought this one and used it for a while but I find it a bit drying and settling into fine lines. 🙁 Maybe I’m not using it properly since everyone seems to rave about it! Time to experiment again! 😀

    • Lily

I find that I really only need very little product for it to work. If I used too much, it is heavy and it creases a little.

  • Now this is an endorsement! 😉
I am on a hunt for a good concealer as I’m typing this. I want something for concealing the spots. Do you think this will work well for that, too?

    • Lily

I find that the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage is great for spots because of its dry texture. Doesn’t slide and covers really well!

      • Thanks for the rec, Lily! <3

        • Lily

          I hope it’ll work for you 🙂

  • Cynthia Loh

Believe it or not…I actually almost finish this!! That I had now reserved for my back up. 😀 So that alone tells you a lot how i find it 🙂

    • Lily

      LOL Glad you LOVE it!

  • It’s been a year and a half since these came out! And my LORD were they hailed as the second coming of french toast! I have Vanilla for undereye concealing purposes and love it. I’ve actually been using the same tube that I reviewed back in April 2013, almost every day, and I only recently noticed the wand isn’t pulling out as much as usual. That’s pretty freaking impressive to me that it’s lasted this long! It also holds up perfectly without creasing no matter the weather. I think it was a good investment! I’m sorry you can’t get your shade where you live! That’s bullocks. 😛

    • Lily

Oh, I’m glad to know it works for you, and that it lasts for about a year and a half with regular use? I’m rotating some concealers (if I wear them) so I have a feeling it’ll take me longer than 2 years to use up this one. LOL!

  • Liz

I tried a wrong shade of this under my eyes one day and it was so obvious in different lighting. I have a Sonia Kashuk concealer palette and theBalm Time Balm. Both work well and I’ve decided not to fuss over hiding every little flaw. 🙂

    • Lily

Oh I read really good things about the Sonia Kashuk concealer palette. If it works, then why change it?

  • I’ve been wanting to review this for ages too haha. I really love NARS creamy concealer, I got it when it was first released, well as soon as I found a Sephora with my shade in stock! I’ve been using this and the Bobbi Brown peach in heavy rotation. I have some other concealers on a waiting list to be tested out too. Always on the hunt for HG, I hate my under eye circles with a passion.

    • Lily

Hahahaha I think we bloggers have that problem. Backlogs, things we want to review but never got round to it… oh well, things happen 🙂
