Review: Urban Decay Vice 3 Eye Shadow Palette

Truthfully, I never got into Vice palettes. The first 2 looked good, but I was never tempted to do more than just look at online swatches. However, when I saw Vice 3 swatches in US and Singapore blogs I follow, I really wanted it! It might be due to the way the colours are coordinated, looking like you’re getting 5 quads in a palette, and maybe it’s due to those jewel toned eye shadows that just looked so appealing. I don’t know! What I know is that this is NOW available at your local Sephora, and it is priced at RM200. RM200 for 20 eye shadows? Deal! It also includes a Vice3 bag and a dual ended shadow / crease brush (both exclusive).

Doesn’t the neon green look sharp against the holographic green background in the reflective case? The case itself is quite lightweight, but it’s also a little slippery. I’d be careful when handling this palette, in case you drop it. I inspected the eye shadows as well, and I might have a hard time trying to depot them, so I’ll leave them alone 🙂 Here’s how the palette looks against the afternoon sun.

See how we have 5 columns of 4 coordinated colours? The far left column consists of all matte shades while the rest are metallic colours. All the shades swatch beautifully, soft and pigmented. When applied with a brush, the colours blend beautifully, but I find I have to clean up under my eyes after using the darker shades. I received this palette just 2 days ago, but I wanted to get the swatches out since I can foresee this palette being really well received. I will post some looks later to show you how I use the colours 🙂

What do you think of this palette? Oh, just an additional note, the brush is not my favourite. The bristles are quite stiff and instead of picking up colours and blending, it kinda sweeps all pigmentation away. Urban Decay eye shadows work very well with fingers, so if you want more pigmentation on your lids, I recommend patting on the colour, then using a soft fluffy brush, blend out the edges 🙂 Stay tuned for looks I create!

  • Oh this DOES look really nice! All the colours look great and pigmented, even the mattes! I can hardly wait to see your looks now! I wasn’t interested in this before now lol!

    • Lily

I know right?!?! I’ll work on the looks as soon as I can 🙂

  • Jaa

So glad you got this one to play with, Lily! I love mine! ^_^

    • Lily

Yay! I remember seeing the swatches on your blog. They’re gorgeous indeed.

  • lyn

This is on my radar! Love the pinks and taupes in this palette!

    • Lily

It’s gorgeous. If you have the time, you really need to feel how these swatch. They’re pretty good 🙂

  • Liz

This is also the first time I got tempted by a Vice palette! But again, too big and bulky. I wouldn’t know where/how to store it, lol.

    • Lily

Right? It’s the first time I’m moved by such a huge palette. It’s smaller than the 15 anniversary palette, slimmer, and I’m just going to keep it in my drawer. It’s the size of 2 Lorac Pro palettes – not too bad 😛

  • Oh don’t get me started on these brushes! I got one with Naked 2 and I HATE that thing with a passion. I’ve been told their regular brushes are so much softer though.

This is a great one for those who actually use big palettes, sadly I am not one of them! If they ever make Reign available as a single eyeshadow, I’d seriously consider it though 🙂

    • Lily

Lol yeah… what would you say if I told you the brush included in the Naked2 palette is better? Hahaha! The lull of this palette is definitely the 20 brand new shades. They are beautiful!

  • This monster sized palette looks amamzing swatched! Love the colour variation and pigmentation. I’d love to get it if I had easier access to UD.
Cant wait to see what you do with the palette!

    • Lily

There are bigger palettes out there so this one isn’t too big. Lol! I’ll try to put up a couple of looks next week. Stay tuned 🙂

  • While this is too big for me to commit anyway, it looks more appealing then those NAKEDs or LORAC ginormorous Pro one.
I’m eyeing on DTF, Reign, and Defy. So complex and pretty. Hope they have them in singles, too. 🙂

    • Lily

Some shades definitely deserve to be made permanent! Bondage and Sonic are especially vibrant in real life 🙂

  • I never get along with massive palettes, but the colors are gorgeous! I just bought a new Marc Jacobs palette, though. Those have 7 shades but they’re so slim and handy! Hahaha.

    • Lily

The colours are gorgeous indeed. I hardly travel and even if I do, I won’t be bringing this palette with me. Lol! I have yet to try anything from Marc Jacobs. Those eye palettes do look tempting though 😛

  • This one speaks to me – LOUDLY! – but I picked up the LORAC Mega Pro instead. I try to limit my purchase of ginormous palettes to one per year. This is the most appealing UD Vice palette so far. There are SO many gorgeous shades I want to play with and cannot wait to see what you do with them! So maybe I should change my rule to 2 ginormous palettes per year. It’s for RESEARCH anyway, right?! 😉

    • Lily

      Definitely dude! For research 🙂

  • Oh gosh, I didn’t realize that the Vice 3 palette has 5 sets of coordinated quads. Very clever! And the pairings are beautifully done too. Well done, UD! I have the first Vice palette and it is always my go-to product for a special event. The jewel-toned shades are irresistible! I understand why you got this 😉

    • Lily

It’s fun to play with too 🙂 So many possibilities!
