Sunday Stash Shopping #32: Gunmetal and Black

Using the Urban Decay 15 Anniversary Palette, I’ve done a colourful peacock look with the teal and blue, another one with purples, so I thought I’d go silver, grey and black today. The 3 shades I’ll be using are Gunmetal, Ace and Blackout. The colours are crazy pigmented, and some of the sooty dark colours did fall on top of my cheekbones. To make it easier, I placed the colours on my eyes before cleaning up with a makeup remover and applying foundation. For reference, here are the swatches.

As usual, I’m using my Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua as foundation, and NARS Orgasm as my blush. I kept Blackout on my lower lash line, Gunmetal on the lids and Ace for more depth. For lips, I usedΒ Revlon Matte Balm in Complex which I think makes me look a little corpse like. It is a concealer-ish matte nude, and boy, I made the wrong decision in purchasing that shade. Look at the photos and tell me if I should just throw it in the bin already!

This is the look I came up with.

I decided to put on another matte lip colour, just to see the difference. Here is NARS Matte Velvet Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita paired with this look.

I look more alive now, don’t I? LOL! I hope you enjoyed today’s creation! Happy Sunday peeps πŸ™‚

  • Stunning! Gunmetal is Gorgeous on you!
Love Dolce Vita on ya too <3

    • Lily

Thanks Noodles. Dolce Vita is definitely better than Complex right? I’m thinking Complex has to go. Lol

  • Dolce Vita definitely looks better with this eye makeup! πŸ˜€ After seeing your post(s), I think I should dig out my UD 15th palette more

    • Lily

You should Laura! You can create so many different looks with this palette πŸ™‚ And I guess you agree Complex looks like death on me huh πŸ˜›

  • I think the Revlon looks ok, but DANG Dolce Vita with this look is AMAZING on you! SO pretty!

    • Lily

Thanks Tracy! Dolce Vita doesn’t look too brown on me surprisingly. Just the right balance of brown and red πŸ™‚

  • Hey Lily, I actually think the Revlon looks fine on you! You probably won’t be able to wear it when you’re doing an office-appropriate look, but it balances that smokey eye out nicely! Love the shape you created!

    • Lily

Thanks Sunny, that’s very kind πŸ™‚ But nah… I just don’t like it. LOL!

  • I knew you’d make the Revlon lippy work! I know it is too much work (and maybe is a moo point) but the nude lip color would look actually perfect with intense smoky eyes if you top it with gloss. I myself prefer the first look although the second one is gorgeous as well! πŸ™‚

    • Lily

Thanks Lena πŸ™‚ I guess it’s not as bad as I thought. Lol

  • I think the Revlon nude is fine! You made it work! Could also maybe try layering a clear balm over it and see if that adds any life, but I think it looks gorgeous the way it is.

But the Dolce Vita look is smoking.

    • Lily

I tried layering Dior Papillon gloss over it but I couldn’t even post the look. I think it looked worse. Lol!

  • Shu Ting

Lily, I thought the Revlon shade is pretty on you, pairing with a smoky dark eye. Perhaps you can layer a bright lipstick over it to sort of tone down the bright shade, if that’s what you’re after? πŸ˜€

    • Lily

Yeah I guess I can make it work by mixing with other shades but I prefer to have it work on its own, you know? I’m lazy like that πŸ˜›

      • Shu Ting

Just 2 days ago I got Complex because I had wanted it for so long and it finally becomes available here. After I put it on lips, yeah I decided that it’s blah… Some people just never learn… tsk tsk tsk

        • Lily

LOL I’m sure Complex looks good on some people. I have to keep in my mind that shades like these just don’t work well on me. Maybe I’ve been on bolder lip kick, but I think I’m just going to stick with colours for a while πŸ˜›

  • I actually like the Revlon Matte on you! It’s the right amount of peachy.

    • Lily

      Really? Thanks!

  • These greys make the shape even more important and I LOVE the unusual wing you chose. Not quite cat-eye, but not a plain elongation either. Awesome at every angle! Duh, I prefer the brighter lip, but since you seem repentant we’ll let it pass, lol

    • Lily

Thanks Kate. Yes brighter lips for sure. I won’t make the same mistake again! If I do, you’ll have to smack me πŸ˜›

  • Jaa

At first I liked the Complex lips but then I saw Dolce Vita and bam!!! You’re right! Dolce Vita makes you look so much more alive!!! Your eye makeup is perfection, Lily! πŸ™‚

    • Lily

Thank you Jaa. Dolce Vita definitely makes me look more alive πŸ™‚

  • Liz

I think both lips make their own statement, but yeah, the nude one really can’t be worn without intense smokey eyes. I had Dolce Vita lip gloss once and liked it enough to finish. People are talking about it again now and I want the lipstick.

    • Lily

Yeah I find I really can’t pull off very nude lipsticks. Made the same mistake with a LMdB one and that one is really painful.

  • Icaria

Looove the look with Dolce Vita! I have the lipstick version but think I just might need the crayon now since it looks a little more intense. Love the wing, almost 80’s inspired! πŸ™‚

    • Lily

Thanks! Is the wing 80s style? I have no idea. Lol!
