I got sucked in purely by the packaging. YSL is not available in Malaysia and the closest counter is in our neighbouring country in Singapore. I ordered mine online when there was a promotion, and I bought these sight unseen. I chose the sheerer shades because you can’t really go awfully wrong with the shades. Look at the lipstick though. I love the embossing of YSL at the centre of the lipstick tube.
The 2 shades I got were Mouthwatering Berry and Sweet Fig. I didn’t know what to expect, and from the first application, I thought I was eating candy. Literally. The scent is of sweet fruit punch, nothing too unpleasant, but if you’re expecting it to be scentless, you’re in for a disappointment. The scent lingers for a while, so if your nose is fussy, you might really want to try these on before purchasing. I’m lucky that while my nose is sensitive, I don’t really mind this scent. I guess the name “Sheer Candy” is really appropriate because these lipsticks are sheer and yes, smells just like candy. Then, I realised these are actually marketed as tinted lip balms!! Such a huge “DUH” moment for me. LOL!
These lip balms are supposed to keep our lips hydrated for at least 8 hours, and *cough* I really can’t tell. The balm is already gone by the second hour and I didn’t even munch on anything in between. Lasting power is definitely not its strong point. Both Mouthwatering Berry and Sweet Fig apply very smoothly and they are also very slippery. So slippery that it doesn’t apply evenly for some reason. I also don’t find it very moisturizing. After doing a few lip swatches, my lips flake and I need to apply lip balm. These don’t cut it. I’d prefer it if they were marketing as just very sheer lipsticks instead 😛
Against my arm, Mouthwatering Berry is actually a light pink while Sweet Fig looks like warm rosey shade. Because these are very sheer colours, they will look different on everyone depending on the natural lip colour. Here is how they look on me.
I wouldn’t say I’m in love with these, but I’m a sucker for packaging. They’re not bad, and if you’re looking for something sheer and somewhat moisturizing, then these are for you. Then again, I’m sure you’ll find something with less attractive packaging at less than half the price. What say you?
