Empties and Final Thoughts Q1 2015

Here are a few things I used up the first 3 months of year 2015. It’s pretty balanced this time round, with some skin, body and hair care, and some makeup. For makeup, there are a few I used up, and a few I had to throw out. As usual, quite a few things seen here have been reviewed, so I’ll link the reviews to the products. I’ll also let you know if I still feel the same way about them, after finishing the whole bottle. I’ll try to keep it short and sweet. Let’s first start with body and hair care.

hair and body

I bought the Clarins body lotion and stretch mark cream when I was still pregnant. They are quite pricey, and while they worked well, I won’t be purchasing them again. The Matrix Biolage Exquisite Oil was provided for review a year and a half ago, and I finally used up every single drop. I have already repurchased it. Yes, it’s really good. I even use it on Chloe and Ashlyn. Their hair gets tangled after shampoo so I just apply a little of this at the ends of their hair and voila, smooth shiny hair. Last but not least, the Kerastase Bain Divalent shampoo. This is quite good for oily roots and it doesn’t dry out my hair. It’s much better than the Bain Densifique shampoo, in my opinion. However, I already have a few shampoos I love so I won’t be repurchasing this.

Now on to skin care.

The Estee Lauder ANR serums need no introduction. I have always repurchased it once I ran out. I’m already half way through a full sized one. Time to get a backup soon. The Estee Lauder Micro Essence has been a great when used with the ANR serum. However, due to its price, and the fact that I’m now unemployed, I will be holding off on the repurchase. The Bi-Facil is also a regular in my skin care routine. It might be time to replace it though. I’ve found Dior to be better, and I will be reviewing it soon. I have grown to love the Clinique Even Better SPF40 sunblock. I was going to repurchase it when I was sent something else. Once I run out, I will be buying this again, as well as the Shiseido one.

There are a few things I used up including a Diorsnow powder, Dior Lip Maximizer and MAC Fix+. It took me FOREVER to use up the MAC Fix+ and no, I won’t be buying it again unless there’s a mini size. Even that, I don’t reach for it all that often so scrap that. I won’t be repurchasing. The Diorsnow powder was a limited edition so I can’t buy it again. I liked it quite a lot, but I have quite a few powders to go through. No buying powders, period. I already have another tube of Lip Maximizer on the stand by. This and the Dior Lip Glow are must haves in my opinion.

The Estee Lauder double wear concealer has to be thrown out because the wand broke. I’m not sure how that happened. I’m not too sad about it because it’s too thick for my liking anyway. Why did I purchase it in the first place? Beats me. I also decided to part ways with the Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencil. It is dry and stiff, just SUCKS. I can’t even give it to a friend. Oh wait, I could have given it to someone I didn’t like all that much. LOL! Last but not least, the Brow Lash pen and pencil duo I bought at Sasa. It’s a Japanese product and I didn’t even have it more than a few months. The pen already dried up (I think I only used it less than 5 times) and the brow pencil broke. FLIMSY – do not buy.

That’s it for the first quarter of 2015. What have you used up? Did you throw away unwanted makeup?

xoxo Lily

  • The wand broke from your double wear concealer? The wand broke from my Nars lip gloss the other day too. Hhhmmmm…..
I havent used ANR serum for a while now, and you’re convincing me to get back into them – once my other ton of serums ever get used up, lol

    • Lily

LOL I love serums too… they’re just super potent and great for the skin (most of them anyway!)

  • I’m eager to try out Estée Lauder Micro Essence! Heard so many great things about it.

It’s great when paired with the ANR serum. A deadly duo!

  • Liz

Good round. I always feel more motivated after reading your empties because you have such a good grasp of what works for you and are steady about it. It’s been fun watching you go through that Dior powder too. 🙂

    • Lily

Thanks Liz and I’m onto another Diorsnow powder. I’m killing it! I think I see pan 🙂

  • There actually is a mini Fix+, lol, but yea, if you don’t use it that often, I wouldn’t bother.

    • Lily

Really? I haven’t been at a MAC store for years!

  • Those Urban Decay pencils I’ll never buy again-they dry up so fast! It’s weird! I love Fix+ and there is a mini one here. And man-you KILLED that Dior powder hahaha!

    • Lily

Yeah, those UD shadow pencils SUCK!! Totally killed this Dior powder, and I’m onto another one 😀

  • AMAZING Lily!! I have yet to use up any powder in my lifetime… seriously! I think i just use maybe 1 nano-gram a day or something! And you’re right about those UD pencils…. such a pity really.

    • Lily

Ah if i remember correctly, you have dry skin, right? Mine used to be oily and my skin got drier after each pregnancy. Now my skin is normal but I still like to powder on my t zone. More habitual than anything really 🙂

  • I’m with you on a lot of these thoughts, Lily. 1. Dior Lip Glow is a must-have! 2. Micro Essence is great with the ANR but would skip it and go for the ANR if budget is tight 3. Loved BiFacil too and it was a staple for me before as well but I looked for cheaper (less oily) alternatives 4. With you on loving the Shiseido sunscreen!!!

    • Lily

Oh yay Shari! Great minds think alike 🙂
