Sunday Stash Shopping #43: Smoke

I like the convenience of eye shadow sticks. Swipe, blend, go. There are 2 I really like, one from Bobbi Brown and another from Laura Mercier. Bobbi Brown’s stay longer on my lids, but the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks are creamier and easier to blend. I only have Amethyst and Khaki, and am looking at Sapphire and Plum. Then one fine day, Smoke was on sale for half the price, so I picked it up too. I don’t have any cream blacks which can be an excellent base for lighter colours.

Here, I am wearing Smoke on its own. I want to show you that black can be worn on its own without looking too dramatic. The trick is to blend, blend and blend some more. I paired it with pink lips and cheeks for a softer more youthful overall look.

For base, I used the RMS ‘un’cover up on places I want to brighten then set with powder. On the cheeks, I’m wearing Bobbi Brown Brightening Brick in Pink and on my lips, Dior Gaia (sorry, this is LE).

Hope you enjoyed this look. Happy Sunday!

I would never think to wear black by itself, how very clever of you! In fact, I hardly ever wear black shadow of any kind – I tend to use deep navy shades or dark neutrals instead as they seem easier to me. Love how properly smoky the black looks, though!

Hi Emma, I usually just use a darker brown because it is less dramatic, and I didn’t have to spend hours blending it out. Hahaha! However, I did want to show how using ONLY black on the eyes isn’t actually that scary 🙂

  • Oh nice! As you know, I am quite obsessed with the Caviar Sticks. I have 8 shades so I think I’ll stop collecting them for a little while :p I love how well-blended Smoke can be! Never really looked into this one because I thought it’d be too dark, but the intensity seems just right once you blend it out!

Hey Sunny, Smoke can be very intense. I love how dark I could make it look, and here, you can see how it sheers out beautifully without looking patchy. I’m so jealous you have so many shades. I have 3 in the family now… it’s slowly growing. Very slowly 🙂

  • This look is gorgeous on you. I actually do this look with Laura Mercier Smoke on me to 🙂

Great minds think alike, Sofia 🙂

  • LOVE. I need to try these as the Laura Mercier don’t last at all on me. I think when I’m on California I’ll be picking up some BB! A matte lipstick, one of these, and I want one of those Art Sticks too. Anything else I should try?

    • Lily

Awesome! Maybe have a look at the new brightening bricks? I love my pink one 🙂

  • Jaa

I love LM Caviar Sticks! Though I don’t have Smoke in my collection just yet. It’s only a matter of time, though. Hehe You are so right. So many people shy away from black but with the right tool and blending, it’s easier to wear black than one might think!

Very pretty look as always! <3

    • Lily

Thanks Jaa. I do love an intense smokey eye look though 🙂

  • I like this – super pretty! I want to get a darker cream shadow stick for stuff like this, too!

Hey Larie, go get it! This it such a multi tasker. It gives you a lighter look like this, a darker more dramatic look when you apply more black, and it also helps bring out lighter colours when used as a base. You know the blue smokey eye you like? The blue will pop if you used black as a base!
