Review: Clinique Pop Lip Color + Primer in Melon Pop and Cherry Pop

I’ve been seeing these Clinique Pop Lip Colors everywhere. It’s not surprising, since these are really affordable, and the shades available are really pretty. They are pigmented lipstick and lip primer in one. The smoothing primer is infused with the lipstick so that lips look juicier, smoother. The Pop Lip Colors give a modern velvety finish, but I actually think it’s more of a satin finish. I have Melon Pop and Cherry Pop to show you. They retail for RM83 each and you can purchase them online at Clinique Malaysia’s website <click here>. Free nationwide shipping for orders RM250 and above. Did you know that there are 4 new shades of their much loved Cheek Pops? You know, just in case you need help hitting 250 🙂

Clinique Pop Lip Color Cherry and Melon Pop

These fragrance free lipsticks come in minimalistic packaging. The tube reflects the lipstick shade that you get, and if you refer picture above, the color on the tube matches very well with the color on the lipstick bullet. Melon Pop seems to be the sheerer of the 2, and while the color is light, it doesn’t wash me out. It is a brighter nude, which I think will look better on those with lighter skin. Cherry Pop is a bright red that leans ever so slightly pink. This goes on opaque in 1 swipe, and the formula is very easy to work with. The lipstick glides on the lips very smoothly and it is very forgiving on lines and dry patches. I guess that’s the primer at work.

I get a full 4-hour wear on Cherry Pop with no fading whatsoever but the color does transfer. You’ll be staining your glass and eating utensils – one of my pet peeves. So, I prefer to remove my lipstick before eating. Drinking, well, can’t be helped. I can’t be removing my lipstick every time I drink! Don’t be ridiculous. heh.

Melon Pop seems to disappear much faster, but that’s usually the case for lighter colors. One thing to note is that the lipsticks seem more comfortable with 2 or more passes on the lips. If I wear it sheered out, it seems to be more drying, for some strange reason. So when I want to wear Cherry Pop sheer, I’ll have to make sure I apply a lip balm as a base.

Here are how Melon Pop and Cherry Pop look on me. I have minimal makeup on, and I just started wearing liquid liner again. I skipped mascara because my eye is not fully recovered. You probably can’t tell from the photos but I was also wearing a sheer wash of color on my lids.

Before you ask, on my face, I was testing out some bases. I mixed my Dior Radiant Base in 002 with Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl (2 to 1 ratio) on my palm, rub them together then pat it on my face and neck before foundation. I find that I don’t even need much foundation after that. It brightens my skin completely, and makes my skin look so smooth and dewy. It does make me look a bit pale in these photos. So after taking these shots, I added some bronzer on my face to look more human 🙂

Have you tried these Clinique Pop Lip Color + Primer yet? What color did you pick up? The darker shades Berry Pop and Cola Pop look interesting. I might have to try them on when I’m at the counter.
