Sunday Stash Shopping #50: By Terry Ombre Blackstar Misty Rock

Instead of doing a review on this cream shadow in a stick, the By Terry Misty Rock, I thought I’d just use it for this stash shopping post. It took me a while to understand this product. There is a much longer setting time compared to Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown. You can play around with it longer and it blends easily. However, I find that moving it around too much before it setting will sheer it out a lot. Just a thought. This is a look I’m wearing right now, before we go out for our Father’s Day outing. We’re going to watch the Minions! All of us love cartoons 🙂

Right, let’s get down to it, because I’m typing this super fast before we leave the house. Here are the products used.

base products eyes and lip products

For the base, I used IOPE’s cushion foundation. I really like this foundation. It gives a dewy finish without making me look greasy, even in this hot and humid environment. The shade I have is N21, so it gives a more natural finish, less coverage compared to its C21. Initially, I thought N is natural, and C is cool, but I was wrong. C is for move coverage, apparently. I searched this online before purchasing and as luck would have it, the shade matched perfectly. It goes on a little brighter than my skin tone, but that’s the K-culture for you. All for brighter, dewy, flawless skin. I matched this with apricots and peaches on my cheeks. Canmake cream cheeks in CL05 is a milky apricot which gives my skin a lit from within glow. The color makes my complexion look brighter as well. The Becca Shimmering Souffle is a nude-ish blush on me with a not so subtle glow. I used this on top of the Canmake cream cheek and the combination is, again, glowy and very natural.

On my eyes is By Terry Misty Rock and a thin line of Bobbi Brown pen liner. I flicked the line upward before I reached the outer corner of my eye for the added lift. I’ve also been using the Estee Lauder Little Black Primer a lot because that’s how much I love it. On top of the primer is the Sucky2 mascara I have not threw away yet. Using this on top of the primer makes it that much better, which proves yet again the awesomeness of this primer – to transform the shitty and hopeless into something satisfactory. On my lips is Chanel Coco Shine in Liberte, the only Chanel lipstick I have in my stash.

Here’s the final look!

  • Love the blush combo on you! My Becca Souffle dried out already-never buying another one of those for sure. And yes! Continue on! I love these look posts you do.
You need to go see Pixar’s Inside Out! It’s SO good!

    • Lily

We’re definitely going to see Inside Out, but it’s not showing here yet. How long did Becca Souffle ‘live’? I remember the beach tint died on me in less than a year.

      • Less than a year it lived-I was pretty pissed. And really? My beach tints are like 3 years old and going strong hahaha!

        • Lily

Yeah, the formula separated in less than a year. I suspect it’s the weather – but I keep it in my drawer, a dark and cool place, so I don’t really know.

  • Bella

Such a pretty look! I have not figured out those Ombre Blackstars yet. I have Bronze Moon and Misty Rock and they disintegrate into glitter on my lids. I love your stash shopping posts, please continue!! Oh, I have a Becca Souffle in Papaya/Lychee or something…..it doesn’t wow me. I have too much cream blush and would rather reach for Chanel or Tom Ford when it comes down to it.
YOUR ONLY CHANEL LIPSTICK????? This astounds me; I actually think RCS and the new reformulated Rouge Coco’s are my favourite lipstick formula in the world, certainly for summer. I wish they made more colours because I have all the ones that work for me already LOL.

    • Lily

Hey Bella, I thought the Ombre Blackstars were really easy to work with (hence all those raves) but it did take me a while to figure them out. My first application, I was puzzled – why is Misty Rock so sheer and full of glitter chunks? Turned out I blended it too soon >_<
As for cream blushes, I've been really enjoying the jelly texture of those Canmake cream blushes. This is my only souffle, and it's not too bad. So is Liberte, my only Chanel lipstick. LOL! I know right? It's so weird for a beauty junkie not to have loads of Chanel lipsticks, but I really love my Diors and they're more accessible to me. I suspect I would have more Chanels if there's a counter near my home though 🙂

  • Pretty! I have been reaching for cream blush a lot lately, too. But I mostly just use concealer nowadays – too lazy for a full foundation and it’s TOO HOT. I want to see Minions! I didn’t realize it was out.

    • Lily

Yes, Minions is out! It’s more for kids though. There’s some heart, and a little action at the end, but not a cinema movie, for sure 🙂

  • I admire that you’re consistent with your series! And this is a very pretty & natural look you created.
I’ve heard many good things about BT Ombre Blackstar, especially tge Misty Rock. I think I might like these (not the price).
IOPE brought out lots of variations ever since the original. Now they have the matte finish and a shimmery one. So confusing, but I still think an IOPE cushion compact would be my first experience. Kind of excited! 🙂

    • Lily

Mine is the air cushion, not the matte or the shimmery one. It’s really nice and comfortable. And yes, read many good things about the Ombre Blackstar, but I don’t know if the price is justified though >_< Caviar sticks ain't that bad and it's only half the price!

  • Happy 50th stash shopping! These are one of my favorite posts you do! MINIONS! I love your father’s day outing, and your makeup is soft and beautiful. Love the By Terry on the eyes. Happy Father’s Day to your Dad and your husband!

    • PS: And your husband’s Dad! 🙂

    • Lily

Thank you Kristen! And the 50th stash shopping post! I’ve been doing it for 2 years already… I surprise myself. LOL!

  • This look is soooo you, fresh, easy and very veeeeeery pretty! Have fun with Father’s Day!

    • Lily

Thanks Melissa! It was a fun outing 🙂

  • Yaaay please continue with the series! I absolutely love it! Misty Rock is really pretty on you! I am reconsidering my decision of not getting it now, but I might want to wait till it cools down again because for the moment taupe isn’t really a shade I really want to wear 😉

    • Lily

Thanks Sunny. I actually want to do more FOTDs and less reviews, but it didn’t seem to happen! Looking at the posts I’ve written, most are reviews and it’s getting tedious. Stash shopping is fun and I’m glad you like it!

  • Aw such a soft and pretty look! Please continue the series! I have the same IOPE, it’s good stuff! It’s a touch light for me in the winter (but in that K-culture way), but I got very tanned this summer and now just looks like I can’t match my makeup properly lol.

    • Lily

Thanks Meiko. Do you need to get another foundation of a darker shade to match, or are you going to go foundation free?

      • Oh I meant only if I wear the IOPE right now, that it’s too light. I have other darker bases that work for me still, or I could always add some bronzer 🙂

        • Lily

          Ah ok. Heh!

  • Lovely look. Looking good Lily! IOPE’s cushion compact sounds interesting for my oily/combi skin. The By Terry Misty Rock shade is gorgeous!

    • Lily

Thanks YuMing. Misty Rock is beautiful! I was debating whether to get Bronze Moon, but I think I’ll skip that. The formula is really not as amazing as the reviews I’ve read. It’s good, it’s creamy, glides on, but for me, it takes too long to set. I’ll just stick to Bobbi Brown or Laura Mercier ones.

  • I’ve just pulled out my Canmake Clear Orange Cream Cheek to use for a while! This milky peach shade looks gorgeous on you, Lily <3

    • Lily

Thank you Monika. This cream cheek is gorgeous!! I think it’ll look good on you too 🙂

  • Yay, I love cartoons! This is a really pretty look, you look great! Hmmm and that lipstick looks great for summer actually!

    • Lily

Coral lipsticks are always great for summer. I find that I don’t have enough corals, but this one is good enough for now 🙂

      • I find that I have too many ultra bright corals, I need something more wearable, like yours!

        • Lily

Oh yes, something sheerer is more wearable 🙂

  • Don’t stop!! Love Stash Shopping posts!! And I love this light, casual look on you…. so young! And i want to watch Minions too… wondering if Ezra might be too young for movies?

    • Lily

Thank you Linda 🙂 I didn’t bring the kids to the cinema until they were about 4 years old. You could kind of tell though. Can he sit through the entire movie at home without being distracted? If he can, then it means he’s ready!
