Some Clinique Skincare I’ve Been Enjoying, and One Not So Much

I’ve been meaning to put up a few posts but I could never get the chance to take photos and edit them. That’s the part that consumes the most time for me. So one day, I just took an hour off babysitting, and took some much needed photos when the sun was cooperating. Now, I have some photos ready and I wanted to tell you about these few products first. I have 3 things from Clinique with me – 2 new-ish items sent to me a few months back, and 1 oldie that I bought a while back. I’ve been using these for a while now, so I have a solid verdict 🙂

Clinique trio

We have here the new Turnaround Overnight Revitalizing Moisturizer, Turnaround Revitalizing Treatment Oil and the Moisture Surge Overnight Mask (RM137). Let me first tell you about the mask. I bought it a while back, and I didn’t think much of it because while my skin was nicely hydrated after a night of this mask, there was nothing to shout about. The texture is a little tacky, and you really need to massage it into the skin for it to be absorbed. One day, my husband came home sunburnt and asked me if there’s anything that would help. I knew I had to replace some moisture in his skin so he wouldn’t peel, and I applied a thick layer of this mask on his skin. He felt a cooling sensation immediately. His skin cooled down and before sleep, I applied another thick layer on his face, including his lids. Guess what? The next morning when he woke up, he did not peel. In fact, he wasn’t in pain anymore. There was still redness, so I applied this again. We did this regularly for about 2 days, and his skin was back to normal. We didn’t use anything else but this, and guys, it worked like a charm!

I had mixed feelings about the Turnaround oil (RM175) and moisturizer though. These 2 were sent to me a few months back, and after using them together for a few days, I started breaking out. I had pretty big pimples on my chin, and so I stopped them immediately. I didn’t know if it was my hormones or the products. Once the breakout cleared, I tried the oil first. I knew that if there was any breakout, it was probably due to the oil. My face seems to be very picky about oils. True enough, I broke out again. When I healed, I tried the moisturizer. No breakout. It was time of the month, and I had a few hormonal pimples here and there, but I continued using the moisturizer. I’m now one third down the tub and I have to say that this moisturizer helps with a healing. It feels a little heavy but I don’t mind that in my night moisturizer. I sleep in an air conditioned room, so it’s good to keep my skin moisturized throughout the night. When I wake up, my skin feels a little oily, but after washing, skin is smooth and a little glowy. I suppose there are plenty of moisturizers in the market that do that, but if you prefer your moisturizer unscented and more affordable at RM185, this is it.

From this post, you would have an idea how I test skincare and it’s really putting my skin “on the line”. I know what products work for me, but I test new products out of curiosity as well, but more for this blog. That’s why I’m now only accepting samples from brands I feel comfortable with. You probably won’t be seeing too many different skincare reviews from now on. Just a heads up.

What skincare have you been using lately? Do you have any favourites from Clinique?

xoxo Lily

  • Awesome reviews! The moisturizer sounds up my alley! But like you, I know what my skin likes now and it’s getting tiresome testing so much skincare. People don’t understand the toll it takes on your skin haha! I’ll still try some things, especially if it interests me and hey-I’m aging so I’m always looking for something to keep me looking fresh! But like you, I think I’ll be subjecting my face to less skin torture hahaha. More “mentions” of new things might happen because of that.

I know! All they think about is how awesome to have free stuff. Hahahaha! So much easier to review makeup 🙂

  • I’ve tried a few of the recent Clinique additions too and one that made me break out from these was the Turnaround Daytime Revitalizing Moisturiser. The nighttime one though is fine, and I really like its soothing properties too!

I totally know how you feel about the samples though – I am quite picky too and while I still test quite some skin care, if I feel like it’s not right it goes straight out of my skin care routine as my days of completely messing up my skin for reviews are over 😉

    • Lily

Yeah sometimes skincare reviews are risky! Lol

  • Liz

I’ve used the old Turnaround stuff back when I was always breaking out and mega oily. It was okay but didn’t do much for me at the time. I kind of want to try the new oil but we’ll see when it comes time to replenish skin care. Good to know about the moisture mask!

    • Lily

The moisture mask is awesome. Definitely proven from experiences that it works 🙂

  • This is pretty amazing about the Moisture Surge Overnight Mask! I’m so glad it helped your husband’s sun burned face! My skin is super crazy picky with oils, too. I recently had serious blowback from trying the DHC cleansing oil again. The first time I tried it, I broke out but wasn’t sure if hormones were to blame. Tried it again, and by day 3, BAM. Zits on fire. Hey – no worries on not venturing into trying every skincare item that comes out! That’s your face, honeybun, so you test what you’re comfortable with!
PS: I’ve been loving Clinique’s All About Lips lately! It smoothes the lips and leaves them feeling perfectly balanced and not crying out for balm.

    • Hahaha crap now I’m scared. I have a sample of the DHC oil and was thinking about trying it, but maybe not 😛

      • Lily

Well, it broke me out too… so…

        • I wonder if it’s the olive oil it contains? I just found this at Paula’s Choice: “What does olive oil have to offer your skin? Well, it’s a good source of antioxidants and, of course, has moisturizing properties for dry skin, but that’s about it. Olive oil isn’t a must-have ingredient for skin, but is a must-avoid ingredient if you’re prone to breakouts or have oily skin because its fatty acid content can contribute to clogged pores.”
@eyeheartit:disqus if you’re breakout prone, you may want to skip the sample!

The moisture surge mask is totes awesome! And DHC broke me out crazy as well.

  • Oh, that’s genius with the Moisture Surge Mask for treating a sunburn! I liked Clinique items in the past (and still like a few), but these days I guess I use more variety. I did use their 3-step back in the day, though!

    • Lily

Yes, that overnight mask is very very good. My husband thinks it’s the best. LOL!

  • I wanted to buy the mask but apparently it’s not available in Spain. In the end I bought the Origins brand version… (and I love it). Hmm this moisturizer sounds good! xx

    • Lily

I’ve read good things about the Origins one too but they’re not available in my hometown. Oh, and I can buy Clinique online so it’s much more convenient 🙂

      • So we have the opposite situation, lol!
