Farewell 2015, Hello 2016!

As I’m typing this, I have only 11 hours left of 2015. I’m not usually a sentimental person, and 1st January is really, just another day but this year of 2015 has been very memorable for me. For once in my life, I did not have to stress about looking for a babysitter during school holidays because I had to work. For once, public holidays don’t matter to me anymore. For once, I could see every single development of my baby and be there for every single milestone, be involved, and be the MAIN person to make these things happen. For once in a very long time, I felt like I had a purpose.

Many were surprised I adjusted so well, but I do admit there are times I wish I was back at work – probably just that few days ever since I stopped working May of 2014. So that’s not a whole lot. I enjoy it a lot, despite the fact that the kids do drive me nuts sometimes. But hey, I’m still the boss and I do the yelling. Hahaha! I was also afraid that when I don’t generate income anymore, and have to depend on the husband, I’d feel vulnerable. I still do sometimes, and it doesn’t help when some hammer awful ideas into my head (how are you going to survive if your husband is no longer around?) but I’d rather not think about that. I trust my husband with my life and I trust my own tenacity that should anything happen, I’m strong enough to take care of my children and myself. So keep all the negativity to yourself, thank you very much.

This year was also quite an uncertain one for me on the blog front, going back and forth on whether or not to continue blogging. I decided to stick around for a while longer, because I really enjoy what I’m doing. The blogging industry might be changing, but I’m just going to stick with what I know best, that is to BE MYSELF. You might also notice that there are advertisements on the blog – I do need whatever peanuts I get to keep the blog alive. Subscriptions for blog hosting and domain etc do cost money and if you remembered, I’m not working anymore. I have yet to write any paid blog posts, but if I did, I will be very transparent with you, trust me. On the right, you’ll see a couple of widgets where you can shop my wishlist, or shop my current makeup on rotation. I do get compensated if you purchased something and again, everything goes into the up-keeping of the blog. I will also change them as my routine changes, or as my wishlist changes.

In short, 2015 has been an awesome one! I got stronger, fitter, I can do full push ups with one leg lifted (use to do push ups on my knees and couldn’t even do 5), I can do burpees without looking like an uncoordinated elephant, and even though I fall off the bandwagon, I still get back on it in my own time. I can now do pull ups with only my ankles supported, and I aim to do unassisted pull ups in 2016.

How was 2015 for you? What’s your resolution for 2016? I’ll share mine with you tomorrow. I want to celebrate the new year with a giveaway, and it’s going to be a surprise. It is a box that consists of luxury brands and I know you’ll love it!

  • Happy New Year Lily to you and your beautiful family! I’m glad you stayed home this time and got to experience all of Ashton! and share it with us too-he’s ADORABLE. I’m a proud internet auntie haha! And I know what you mean about the uncertainties of blogging as I have them as well. I’m still going, but we shall see. I’m glad you are still going to blog as I love your sense of humour and your honesty as well. I don’t really read a lot of beauty blogs to be honest as most of them are just well, you know… but yours will always be one of my faves! Love you lady! xo

    • Lily

Thank you Tracy. Hope you had a wonderful New Years celebration with Marky home. Love you too lady!

    • Lily

Thanks Effie. Hope you had a wonderful New Years!

  • Happy new year, Lily! My resolution is to stop getting bogged down in difficulties and negative thoughts. I’m generally pretty optimistic and don’t live with a lot of regrets, but this past year has been really difficult and I sometimes let myself wallow in self-pity a little too much. I was going to do a post about it, but I don’t have much energy for blogging right now. I don’t really read much nowadays either, just try to keep in touch with the blogging friends that I have made – I love you all!

    • Lily

Here are WAVES of positive energy and thoughts to you, dear Larie. It’s not easy moving to another state and being away from loved ones. I hope you had your energy fully recharged during the holidays, and that S gave you an abundance of love to last you through the next hubba hubba. HAHAHAHAHA!!!

  • Happy new year:) I don’t really do new year resolutions, except this one; keep up the fab! It cracked last year due to circumstances, but I’ve got the feeling this year will be better šŸ˜˜

    • Lily

Yes, fresh year, fresh start. Everything resets, IF you want it to. This year will definitely be better, Siri!

  • Jan S

Happy new year! Thanks for keeping the blog going, I look forward to reading your posts every week. This year I’m planning to spend more time in exercise and paying more attention to eating healthy.

    • Lily

Thanks for reading, Jan. I want to spend more time exercising too! And yes to eating healthy. I really have to turn this thought to action. ROFL!

  • Lulu

Happy New Year!!! And it’s great you continue blogging!
My resolutions are to cut on sweets and get fit.

    • Lily

Hope you had a fantastic new year, Lulu. Oh yes, sugar is the big baddie here. CUT SUGAR! *that’s me telling myself*

  • Anna

    Happy New Year!
My resolution is to become more confident and take some chances.

    • Lily

Hi Anna. You can do it! Believe in yourself. All you have to do is to take that first step šŸ™‚

      • Anna

        Thank you, Lily))

  • Jennelle Leow

Happy New Year! My resolution is to get fit, be healthy and lose that few kgs.

    • Lily

All the best Jennelle! I have at least 10kgs to lose. HAHAHA!

  • yunie henoek

Hello Lily. Happy New Year to you and your family! Cheers to 2016!

    • Lily

Hi Yunie! 2016 will be an awesome one – for you, and your husband too šŸ™‚

  • BooBooNinja

Happy New Year, Lily, Ashlyn, Chloe, Ashton, and Husband!
My resolution? … I’ve been too lazy to come up with one. I’ll get back to you. šŸ˜›

    • Lily

LOL! I remember skipping resolutions for a few years because I didn’t stick to them. This year though, they are to make me a better person so I’m going to try šŸ™‚

  • Anusha Puri

hello ..there isn’t any box in the widget to leave email address ?

    • Lily

Hi Anusha, you could have just clicked enter and the widget will automatically capture your email. I have amended it so you now have to type in your email address yourself so go ahead and enter!

      • Anusha Puri

        thank you so much

  • Katja

Happy new year! My resolution is to sleep less. Really, I’m a chronic over-sleeper, I can sleep 12 hours easily. So this year, I want to spend much more time awake than asleep. šŸ™‚

    • Lily

Let’s trade places. I want more sleep. HAHAHA!

  • Yvonne Tay

Hey there! Happy New Year! My New Year resolution is to be more active. Haha, I used to keep saying I will exercise, but that never works out. Hopefully, by minimising the use of a car, I’ll move around more. (:

    • Lily

Hi Yvonne, being more active is a great way to put it! Exercising is only one of the ways to get our body moving. So restrictive and demotivating if you didn’t actually exercise. So yes, you can walk around more, minimise the use of a car, walk the stairs, hop around in the rain, skip around with little children etc!

  • Happy New Year Lily! I love hearing about your great year and everything you’ve achieved, and you’re so strong both physically and mentally šŸ™‚ My resolutions are to be present, be happy, and work to achieving what I want as much as possible. I’ll enter the giveaway now!

    • Lily

Hey Sofia. How did you celebrate New Year’s? Thanks for being a long time reader and friend! I love your resolutions. We all need to be present and to get what we want, we do need to work for it. There are too many people who feel entitled, you know? So kudos to you!!!

      • Thanks for accidentally getting me into making a blog in the first place šŸ˜‰ and for being a friend xxx

        • Lily

Aaw, I hope we can meet up one day, Sofia. That would be awesome!

  • Lily

Yes, and thank you! May 2016 be all that you hope for, and MORE!

  • Aww, Lily. I am so glad that you had a great 2015, and that you’re still blogging! I don’t have a chance to comment that often, but I love catching up on Chloe Ash on the weekends.

My resolution for 2016 is to learn how to take things slowly again. Happy New Year to all of you guys at the Chloe-Ash household šŸ˜‰

    • Lily

Hope you had a good New Year’s, Rae. Yes, taking things slow is important. I think it actually helps us see so much clearer šŸ™‚

  • I am glad to hear that you will be blogging. I love reading each and every blog post.
My resolution for 2016 is to start sport and get in shape again. I also need to balance work and life a little better and hoping that I find sometime for blogging too. Thanks very much for the give-away. You did it much better. Once you announce, all kinds of strange people come and join *frowns*

    • Lily

HAHAHA! Yes, Sara, that’s why I don’t even want you guys to retweet on Twitter or announce on Facebook, etc. Those people who entered so far are all my readers, because when I check the email address, they’ve been subscribed for a long time. I LOVE IT! I hate it when giveaways are picked up by those hunters. Blech!!

  • mj_estel

Happy New Year! I started reading your blog last year and I’m glad I found it because it’s quite difficult to find “real” blogs nowadays, instead of magazine-type blogs. So, I hope you continue blogging for many more years!

This year I haven’t set any specific resolution, just keeping trying to get healthier and buy less make-up!

    • Lily

Thanks for reading, mj_estel. I’m still awed by you guys, because you actually like to read my rambles, which are sometimes incoherent. Hahahaha! We should all aim to get healthier, live longer, and enjoy beautiful things šŸ™‚

  • Anusha Puri

One of my biggest resolution, is to become better every day.
Better than my old self. There’s always going to be jealous people, always going to be haters, always going to be bitter people, I’ve learned to pray for them, as difficult as that can be sometimes, and move on. I need to remember ultimately their actions are proof that whether they admit to themselves or not- they are not happy people. So I pray for their happiness..

    • Lily

Yes Anusha. Be the better person. I learned to let go too. I used to have a friend who was so insecure with herself that she thought everyone was out to get her. So in the end, I decided to let go of the friendship because it was toxic. I pray she will find happiness in herself and not be so bitter with the world!

  • Liz

I like the direction and attitude that you’re taking in the face of uncertainty and risk. Leaving a well-paying career is one thing, learning to live without it for the long haul is even tougher! I encountered some doubts as well throughout my weird job situations, but it wasn’t until I threw off beauty blogging that things became clearer. It’s great that you can make room at Chloe Ash for other things that also mean a lot to you personally. I don’t like reading product reviews anymore but I’ll always be around to coo at Ashton and share in your joys!

    • Lily

LOL I’ll always post Ashton’s stuff on Instagram to chase away kid haters. Hahaha! I do try to post some non beauty related stuff here, but at the same time, I feel like I don’t want to reveal too much. Also, in life, there are always uncertainty. I believe that even if shitty things MIGHT happen in the future, we shouldn’t stop being happy and enjoying life right now!

  • Shu Ting

Happy new year, Lily! I’m so very late but I’ve got 3 kids (what a perfect excuse!! hehe). :p

About what you said on choosing to stay at home and care for your family, I think it’s not an easy decision and some people just don’t understand how much sacrifice one has to go through to make that decision.

I deeply believe that with our education & experience, we are much better in putting the right ideas / helping with kids development / helping them to have a better EQ and knowing the right and wrong. A maid / babysitter would not do that for you. Unless you are super duper lucky! haha!

I don’t even make new year resolutions anymore because I don’t really stick to them!! HAHAHAHA Hey I’ve got 3 kids! :p :p :p

Hope you have a great year ahead, and sounds like you are really fit now! šŸ˜€ I try not to think about how many pushups I can do without shaking because it’s sad… haahahahaha

    • Lily

It’s still new year, Shu Ting, because it’s Chinese New Year soon!!! We’re excited because we’ll be travelling this year. I sometimes use that 3 kids excuse too. LOL! But I have friends who have 4 or 5 kids, so I can’t use that with them. HAHAHA! And yes, I agree. We can teach them better, and nothing beats a mother’s love. I feel very lucky to be able to care for my children myself, but there are still times when I’d miss some adult time without feeling guilty. I don’t usually make resolutions, but I feel that with all the bad things happening everywhere, it’s important to at least remind ourselves to be good, you know?
I’m being more consistent with my workouts and eating habits now, so I’m seeing results a little faster. However, I’m still very far from my goal. I still have to wear size L in clothes FML. Well, on a more positive note, at least XL is too big for me now. HAHAHA!

      • Shu Ting

OH yeah CNY is coming soon!!! I won’t be travelling… booohoooo! Last month we did our annual break in my husband’s hometown which is 12 hours drive from Bangkok so we have to break our journey into 2 days 1 night per trip. With a 1 month + old baby and 2 kids, it’s really not wise to try to arrive at our destination in one day. This time we had 3 carseats fitted in the car and everything is so crammed. Constantly challenging ourselves. hahaaha

Wow keep up with the workouts and healthy meal plans you! You know what, sizes in clothes doesn’t make sense. You could be wearing S in guailow brand! šŸ™‚

Hey I read from Ponikuta’s blog that she also had really hot bath and she massaged her problem areas during bath. I am so keen to try. Which HIIT program do you follow? I did Jillian Michaels 2 days ago for the first time after giving birth, and today I had to take paracetamol for muscle aches. It was only 15 minutes I did… so embarrassing! hahahaha

        • Lily

Oh wow. 3 car seats in a car – you need a big ass car. Or a MPV! I applaud you for travelling with your little baby! I haven’t travelled that far with Ashton yet, but we’ll be heading to Singapore for CNY, so we’ll see how he behaves šŸ™‚ I love Melissa Bender’s YouTube videos. She’s calm, gives clear explanations, and she does the whole workout with you. For down time, I love Yoga With Adriene. She’s amazing! After a while, you’ll know how to create your own high intensity routine. I like it when the workout is short and crazy, gets me all pumped and want to die, in less than 30 mins. HAHAHA! I also do weight lifting to get stronger. It’s great to be able to do difficult push ups and my goal is to do an unassisted pull up. I still can’t do it yet.

          • Shu Ting

I am so going to give Melissa Bender a go soon. Oh yeah I love Yoga with Adrienne too! She’s charming! I started mild exercise after c-section with her yoga videos as I didn’t want to suddenly go into crazy exercises (afraid the wound will burst, but it’s silly thought really). Then I changed back to Jillian Michaels’ Shred in 30 because I had some good results with her workout after my second baby. And she doesn’t make me have dizzy head with the workouts. šŸ˜€

            • Lily

Melissa Bender’s HIIT is way more intense than Jillian Michaels’ 30 day Shred, in my opinion. Melissa is pregnant at the moment, and she’s still doing some videos which I think is insane! So fit!!
