Review: Chanel 226 Tisse Rivoli Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad

With shades described as golden taupe, rose beige, rose gold and red brown, Tisse Rivoli and I were meant to be. I was also intrigued with Raffinement, which I thought looked beautiful and similar, but I never bought any. I hated the Chanel baked eye shadows. Has it been more than a year now that Chanel reformulated their baked quads? I remember reading beautiful reviews, about them FINALLY listening and stopped being absurd, and that the quality of the new baked quads are amazing! There is no Chanel counter near me, and at that point, I was pregnant, so I didn’t get to travel. Then you know, baby came out, I got even busier. LOL! That’s life.

I was then approached by, an online shopping site to pick up a few things for review. No harm there, I thought. It’s still a fairly new site but I went through the brands, and surprised to find some hard to find Japanese and Korean brands being carried. You’ll see Albion, Amore Pacific, Hera, The History of Whoo and Lunasol (which many sites don’t carry), and many more brands there. I believe they’re working very hard on bringing in more stock and more product variety to the brands available, so it’s a site I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on. The items arrived safely, in very well protected packaging, so nothing is broken. I read some really bad feedback about Amazon’s packaging on makeup items and I’d hate to see makeup I bought broken because the seller is not responsible enough to put extra padding.

So back to Tisse Rivoli. I’m sure many of you have seen this before but here it is anyway.

Tisse Rivoli

Doesn’t look like much on the pan, really. Just another set of neutrals. The swatches though. So pigmented and buttery! Applies smoothly, blends like a dream, light as air.

Still, it doesn’t translate to how much I’ve fallen for this palette. I can use each shade in this palette individually, and it creates a beautiful eye look. The top left, golden taupe, has the most dimension and looks best worn on its own. Bottom left, the rose gold beige, is also beautiful on the lids alone. The top left, light rose beige is great for highlight, and on my skin, it doesn’t show up that much. Bottom right, red brown, gives the perfect definition to my eyes. It has a satin finish that, when used alone, is great for that simple smokey eye. So many possibilities with this one palette. I’m really happy with my selection! I put up 2 looks on my Instagram, so go have a look <look1 using top left shade>, <look2 using bottom left shade>.

  • Wow ok, those are some NICE swatches for a Chanel palette hahaha! If I’d get this if I was not up to my hoo hoo in shadows that I hardly use 😛

    • Lily

LOL Tracy. I know what you mean. I was surprised when I swatched these – the texture is quite different from what I have. And it’s also good to know I don’t have dupes, so this is a happy welcome 🙂

  • Liz

The shades are gorgeous! I have a new appreciation for neutrals lately, now that the experimentation phase is over. I doubt I’ll ever buy the Chanel quads though – not a fan of the texture, old or new.

    • Lily

I’ve always loved neutrals more than anything else. I wanted the new Chanel quad for the longest time but I also haven’t been able to travel the last couple of years (the closest Chanel counter is in another state!). My schedule is just crazy and it makes me a little sad. I need some me time!

  • I hated the old baked ones too! I just havent got around to buying one of the Chanel “Tisse”because I suppose I just think I already have too many eyeshadows… Ok, us women know that is NOT an excuse 😉

    • Lily

Yeah, I think many of us share that same sentiment about the old formula. I really like this new formula. Doesn’t kick up powder, applies smoothly, blends easily. Gorgeous!

  • They really upped their game with the new formula. Love these shades!

    • Lily

They did, didn’t they? It’s like the more I use this quad, the more I love it!

  • I loved the looks you showed on Instagram, Lily!
Mine looks much warmer than yours for some reason. I guess it’s the lighting (or the computer screen)? I don’t mind the old baked version, so these reformulated ones are just about right to my liking. However, they still vary in blendability and pigmentation, is my observation. Tissé Rivoli is definitely one of the better quads out there. Plus the color composition is so stunning!
I checked out the site and was very tempted to get some Lunasol, but I couldn’t find the shade I need. Hopefully, they add more stuff soon. The price is quite good! 🙂

    • Lily

It might be the lighting, Lena. When I take the photos in the morning, the light is cooler. Afternoon light is warmer. I’m glad I picked up a better quad because I’m definitely loving Rivoli!! Ah and yes, this site does offer some hard to get brands, and fingers crossed they’ll add more products soon, especially now that Christmas is so near! The extra 10% off is pretty good though.

  • You’re right, they look like just another neutral quad in the pan, but the swatches are really gorgeous. So much depth and intensity, wow! I can imagine a lot of looks that could be done with these 4 colors alone. Definitely looks like it’s worth the investment!

    • Lily

Hi Lulle, I was hoping I made the right choice and I’m positive I did. I was actually debating between this and Tisse Mademoiselle and I’m glad I chose this!

  • Emma Bovary

I adore this so much – I have Poesie the limited edition palette, and it’s just too similar to this one to warrant owning both so I think my next Chanel quad will be a different one. It’s so easy to wear, a true classic
