My So Called In Between Skincare

What? In between skincare routine? I assure you I’m not nuts. I just don’t know what to call it. You know how you’re not working 9 to 5 anymore, or maybe it’s the weekend, and you went out in the morning, but home after lunch? Do you still keep your makeup on? I don’t. I ALWAYS remove my makeup then. Instead of using a cleansing oil, which I always use at night to take everything off, I like to use micellar water. This developed when I started using the Bioderma one. It’s gentler on the skin, I think, and doesn’t dry out my skin. Furthermore, I always reapply my sunscreen too.

Lately, I’ve been using the La Mer Cleansing Micellar Water in place of my Bioderma one which I already used up. The La Mer Cleansing Micellar Water (available in August 2016) removes makeup more effectively, I find. I use 1 to 2 cotton pads to get clean skin, instead of at least 3 with Bioderma. However, this is scented and I personally prefer it if there isn’t any fragrance. I usually use oil based removers for waterproof mascara, and I tried using this just to see how it works. It doesn’t get rid of budge proof eye liners and mascara as easily, and some eye rubbing is involved. This is the case for any other micellar water, so it’s a common problem. You will expect La Mer to infuse their trademark Miracle Broth into this micellar water, and they did, creating the new Marine Micellar Water that is more potent. For this, we are also paying a premium at RM340 which I think is pricey. The price point comes as no surprise, but if budget is a problem, then there are plenty other options out there. Is the price necessary, you ask? Well, I know people who use much more expensive cleansing balms and rave about them, so there you go.

After a clean face, I’ve been enjoying Paula’s Choice Resist Youth Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF50 (RM165, 60ml). This is a moisturizer and SPF in one, which I think is handy. It is very fluid in texture, making application very easy. My skin is usually dry after cleansing, so this is a fuss free way of killing 2 birds with 1 stone. This moisturizer / sunscreen has the traditional smell of a sunscreen. I actually really like it. Brings back pleasant memories of my teen, somehow. LOL! I’ve been reading a lot about Paula’s Choice, and while it shipped internationally, it did not ship to Malaysia. So I’m glad we now have an authorized reseller Worthee Cosmetics, and you can even purchase it online! I love online shopping. It’s convenient, and you can have access to the products wherever you are in Malaysia. For shipping details, click here (you’re welcome).

So there you go, my in between skincare routine. I’d go about my day, in and sometimes out of the house, and if I need to go out for the evening, I’d apply my makeup again if needed. I prefer it this way, because I really don’t like walking about in my makeup unnecessarily. I mean, I might be taking a nap, and I don’t like having makeup on. It didn’t use to bother me before, but apparently as I got older, I also grew fussier.

What about you? Would you remove your makeup or just let it be? Am I the only weird one here?

xoxo Lily

  • I usually put on my makeup in the morning around 8am and remove it at the end of the day, well, after I cook around 5pm. Back when I was living in Malaysia, I can’t stand makeup on my face for a long time, the humidity makes me want to peel my skin off. LOL! It’s different here though, I pretty much don’t sweat so I don’t feel it on my face. Also small town living, so I don’t feel the grime and dust on the skin. I’ll need to check that Paula’s Choice moisturizer, that high SPF is very appealing to me.

I know what you mean. If the weather here is cooler and less humid, I probably won’t feel the makeup on my face. If you end up getting the Paula’s Choice moisturizer, I’d love to know how it works on you.

  • Yeah, I put my makeup on in the morning and remove it when I shower in the evening, lol. I take all of my jewelry off as soon as I come home, though! LOL. It’s like, it feels too much and I want clean hands and everything. I don’t know. So I know how you feel, but I just do it with jewelry instead, LOL.

I take off my jewelry too. Mainly because Ashton pulls my necklace, and rings get in the way of me doing things 🙂

  • hmm… i actually leave my makeup on… i read somewhere before that you shouldnt wash your face more than 3x a day, and i always like to cleanse and apply moisturizers right before i put on makeup. So just in case i want to go out again at night and need to apply makeup, i dont remove in the afternoon. It’s a dilemma i’m pondering though… the benefits of all the excellent skincare versus leaving makeup on. But it also takes me a long time to complete my full routine… so i’m lazy! LOL!

LOL I hardly go out at night so I don’t have to worry about that. If I know that I’d be going out, then I usually keep my day makeup light. I still wash my face though. I just feel uncomfortable with my makeup on the whole day. It was OK when I was working but it’s been more than 2 years since I went to the ‘office’, and my skin got used to being makeup free most of the day 🙂

  • I do what you do! It depends on my day. If I go to the gym in the AM, I don’t wear makeup. But if I go out for the day, then I wear a little bit. And I take it off as soon as I get home as well, I just have gotten so used to having nothing on my face again that I can’t stand wearing it for too long now haha! I’ll use a micellar water as well, or a wipe, and then later when I take a shower I’ll wash my face. That Paula’s choice moisturizer sounds great! I love that it has SPF 50. I think I’ll order it! I usually like her stuff with SPF in it. Thanks!

Me too! I think it’s because I’m used to not wearing much makeup anymore. I think it’s good news for our skin, Tracy 🙂

Thanks Kiran. Sounds like you get your routine all panned out. It’s lovely to know there are so many people who take good care of their skin too. It horrifies me when I hear some of my friends say they only use soap and water!

  • Lily

HAHAHA! I think I can relate. There was one point in my life when I’d just wear makeup and change it up for the sake of it. Well, of course, I’d use the blog as an excuse 🙂

    Thanks for the code 🙂
