Review: Dior One Essential

The Dior One Essential serum and mask are one of my earlier forays into anti aging skincare. I was apprehensive before I purchased the face serum, eye serum and mask a few years ago. There were mixed reviews, because many claimed their skin couldn’t take it, and experienced breakouts. Even the Dior SA told me she herself experienced breakouts for 2 whole weeks, before her skin calmed down, recovered and got even better. I didn’t regret my purchases of course, because it worked great for me. So, when I was sent these, I was ecstatic! I knew they would work on me, and these newly formulated serums and a new addition of a face mist will do my skin a lot of good. I strayed from this line because of the new products I had to try, so I’m glad I get to rekindle with my old love.

One Essential trio

The One Essential serums are as good as I remember 4 years later. Maybe it’s because my skin is older, I also notice that my skin is less prone to breakouts, and absorbs the serums that much faster. These are PRE serums, which are meant to boost the efficacy of other treatments. I use this immediately after essences, before any other serums or treatments. It is an extra step, and a lot of dollars extra, but it also adds the extra mile to your existing routine. I actually don’t have much to add to my review from a few years back because they’re still as good even reformulated. The mist lotion is something I’ve been using regularly. After cleansing, I spray some onto my face, and also onto a cotton pad to wipe all over my face. Then, I spray some onto my face again before using my essence. The reason to spray, wipe and spray is to remove any residues from cleansing, and mist the face again for hydration and toxin removal.

Look, I really don’t know about the anti pollution, toxin removal claims, but this trio has been good to my skin and I’m taking it as that. I know there are skeptics out there, and heck, I’m one of them! And as a blogger, we get the opportunity to try so many things that we can weed out the good from the meh, and the average from the crap. And this, my friends, is truly good, as I’ve told you 4 years ago.

Then again, our skin is uniquely individual. What works for me might not work for you. So as usual, take all reviews with a pinch of salt, and KNOW your own skin. I’m just here to tell you that the Dior One Essential is gold for my skin. That’s all 🙂

  • I read this post and then I went and read your initial review. This sounds great and I’m also comfortable with the price 1oz for C$125, Sephora has 2.5oz for C$195 which is also not bad considering it’s from Dior. What worries me is the initial purging phase…not sure if I have the guts to put my skin through it.

I was really hesitant initially too! But it was good. As long as I don’t pick on my skin, then there won’t be scarring. There were a few spots here and there back then, but this time round, my skin is calmer. It must be age!

  • Yup know your skin is the key! And I know Dior skincare doesn’t work for me haha. Also, I don’t believe in pre-serums either just saying. But glad this stuff works for you!

Yeah, some brands just work, and some don’t, no matter how well it works on others. Just like SKII. It doesn’t work on me, but my friend credits her flawless skin to this brand. There you go 🙂

  • Haha, ‘the good from the meh’… that made me chuckle 🙂 Good to hear the trio is working for ya!

I didn’t know how else to put it. LOL! Some are bad, some are just average, which I call ‘meh’, and some are good 🙂

Glad you like these too Jeann. It’s surprising there are many people who don’t know their own skin. I’ve only learned to be more analytical after having my own blog 🙂

  • so great to have a golden one that you can rely on! Ive tried several samples of this but for whatever reason never got into it. Pre/booster serums in general are something i cant find room for when im already using 2-3 serums day/night.

LOL I know what you mean. I sometimes don’t slap everything on at the same time. I might put on some products, then do something else, and then go back to finish the routine. HAHAHA!

I love to read how skin products work on others too. Broadens our perspective that’s for sure.
