Review: Shiseido Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation

I went to my local mall recently to replenish some sunscreen and my go to has always been the Shiseido Wet Force. They had a promotion then, for every RM100 spent on beauty products, I’d get a RM20 voucher. SCORE! I usually shop for skincare and makeup then. They usually have this every few months, so I don’t mind waiting to get my 20% off. Anyway, when I was at Shiseido, I played with their Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation. I fell in love with the texture. I bought it based on the swatch on my arm, and it matches my face perfectly. I think I have trained myself to look at swatches so I know what works for me and what doesn’t. My shade is Golden 1. They have Rose (pink base) and Neutral as well. They didn’t have Neutral 1 in stock, so I didn’t get to swatch it to see the difference. Either way, Golden has a warmer / yellower undertone which suits me perfectly.

This foundation is supposed to sync with different skin condition and skin tone. It’s supposed to keep your dehydrated areas moisturized and oily areas less shiny. I might be wrong and can’t get anymore information because the Shiseido Malaysia team doesn’t seem to respond to emails. But based on the reviews I read online, that about sums it. A foundation for all skin types. I’m usually skeptical when it comes to this because I don’t believe in one size fits all when it comes to foundation. This foundation has a very watery and fluid texture. It is very light and reminds me of Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, only with more coverage. For some reason, it feels like dry oil when applied too. To apply, I shake it vigorously, squeeze one pump onto the back of my hand and apply using either my fingers or a buffing brush.

** wrong name. Supposed to be Shiseido Synchro Skin Long Lasting Liquid Foundation.

This foundation doesn’t emphasize flakes, but it doesn’t hide them either. I find that it does minimize the look of pores, but not completely. I have normal to slightly dry skin and in humid days, I wear it on its own after my sunscreen. When my skin feels drier than usual, I like to use a dewy primer underneath such as Bobbi Brown Illuminating Face Base or Becca Backlight Priming Filter. I’ve used this foundation on top of pore fillers as well. Tried the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer and the Bobbi Brown Skin Smoothing Pore Perfector and I don’t see much difference. Perhaps it’ll make more difference to those with oily skin. For the super light texture, the coverage is not as I expected. It gives at least a medium coverage and can be built up to full coverage.

You can see some blemishes on me here (time of the month) and redness is covered completely. Here’s a close up for you to see the erm, textures on my face.

I’ve been using this foundation every day since I got this 2 weeks ago. It gives a beautiful natural finish and I don’t need to set with powder either. I read that there’s a new version coming out soon – Synchro Glow. That might be good for drier skin, but I’m not sure if it just gives a glowy finish or if it’s moisturizing as well. We’ll see.

Oh by the way, this foundation is only RM155. With the sunscreen I bought, I spent a little more than RM300 and got cash vouchers of RM60 which I spent on groceries. Have you tried this foundation? It’s been in the market for a while already!

  • This foundation does actually look like your skin and not like a mask. Love your freckles. 😀

    • Lily

Thanks Eesha. I went for laser treatments to get rid of most of the freckles. I always thought my skin looks much cleaner without freckles! LOL 🙂

The after pic was so lovely. Very natural and very pretty. I haven’t seen any before after pic of foundation that caught my eyes like your pic. And I’m not even a foundation person, only wear it on occasions. Made me wanna go get one for myself…

    • Lily

Thank you! I think it’s best to take before after pics when skin is not looking its best. That way, you can show the magic of the foundation. Hahaha!

  • It really does look like skin on you, Lily and the finish is beautiful. I have never tried Shiseido makeup with the exception of one cream eyeshadow. I think I’ve seen some reviews on this foundation before but they are pretty mixed. I love very light coverage so not sure if I’ll enjoy this as much.

I prefer my foundations with light texture and light coverage too! So in the end, I only use half a pump of this for my whole face. Trust me though. You’ll love this texture. And easy to find a shade match too!

      • You’re supposed to say ‘You’ll hate this, Shireen!’ and not encourage me! Haha! I’ll need to check Sephora and see what shade range they have. The store I work at only has Shiseido skincare but unfortunately no makeup….maybe it’s a good thing they don’t carry the makeup or my pay cheque goes poof within a day.

        • Lily

Hahaha OK then. Actually, you probably have so many foundations you don’t need any new ones!

  • I like foundations with a light texture and coverage. However, the other day I asked a MUA friend of mine for a good light foundation, and her answer was: all foundations can be light if you put it on thinly enough,…. I think she’s right, lol

    • Lily

LOL yes she’s right! Also, a damp beautyblender will sheer out those heavy foundations right away.

      • I usually use my fingers, I find that the warmth and pressure sheers it out too!

        • Lily

Yes that works too! After application, I also like to warm my palms and gently press my face.

  • I liked this foundation very much when I first got it, but then I fell in love with the cushion. By the time I went back to it recently, I found it much too drying for my flakey bits. Just tried out the new glow one, and I am in LOVE!! I sound like such a flake for jumping fr one to the other new shiny thing, but I think my skin is growing with the brand.

OMG Linda. You make me so curious now!
