Sunday Stash Shopping #98: Modern Renaissance Palette

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette to be exact. I bought it after thinking long and hard, and got it anyway because of all the hype. Let’s get to the bad first. The eye shadows are super powdery. Yes, they are pigmented and smooth and easy to blend, but there will be powders that drop on your cheeks, and the palette itself will get super messy because it just kicks up lots of powder. That’s the only one gripe I have. The palette is gorgeous and is great for those who love warm colours but gosh, all the powder. I’ll skip the swatches because they’re all over the internet, so let’s just get to how I wear it.

2 different eye looks using Modern Renaissance Palette

The one of the left is done using all the reds in the palette, while on the right, I used the oranges. This is just to show you that they are not that intimidating to wear. In fact, I love how the reds turned out. There’s still a tinge of brown, so definitely not a true red, and not as kapow as Dior Trafalgar, but they’re definitely easier to use. And in an eye palette with so many different shades, we want to maximize its use and be able to use all the colours! Also, as you can see, the oranges don’t look orange on the lids at all.

With both these eye makeup, I paired it with Bobbi Brown Antigua on the cheeks and Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Color in Soft Berry. This cheek and lip combo has been my go to because it just goes with literally everything! Next, I also created a very wearable every day look with the Modern Renaissance Palette. The next 2 photos are taken in daylight, and is probably more true to colour. I just used the usual suspects on my lids. The bronzes and browns. And on my lips, just lip balm.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette can definitely take you from day to night but I think it would be better if there’s a matte black in the palette. I guess most of us own a black shadow so it might be redundant, but hey, there are people who only have that ONE eye shadow palette and use it day in day out. I know I used to be like that! I bought this palette from Cult Beauty, no problems with shipping, and price excludes VAT.

I hope you enjoyed the different looks.

Happy weekend to you and have a great week ahead!

  • I love the all reds look! Very sultry twist on the usual smoky eye.

    • Lily

Thankk you! It’s different, that’s for sure 🙂

  • I took this off my Sephora love list because I thought I don’t need it anymore now that I have Naked Heat but after seeing these looks that you created, okay, I need this too!

LOL if you can get over the powder falling everywhere, this is a nice palette to have. Not a must have though 🙂

Gorgeous looks, Lily! I have this one too and I agree the shadows kick up a lot of powder. They are super smooth and blendable, too. It’s an interesting contrast!

Aww thanks Linda. I haven’t been wearing makeup much lately though. Need to bust out some eye shadows soon!
