The La Mer Moisturizing Matte Lotion (RM1,050, 50ml) is available since July this year, and I’ve been using this as my day cream for the last couple of months. The name itself is a paradox, I find. A moisturizing lotion that is matte? Is it even moisturizing enough? Is it suited only for those with oily skin? Those are what I asked myself when I first received it. My first experience with La Mer was when it first arrived in Malaysia, with only one counter at KLCC. I remember I just landed my second job working in a foreign bank and the pay was quite good, so I splurged. There was only Creme de La Mer back then (a good 14 years ago I think?) and I still remember the lady telling me that just that one pea sized amount was enough for my entire face. Naturally, I didn’t see much difference, since my skin was still supple, young and bouncy.
Now, I have 3 kids, my skin getting drier after each kid, and I’m turning 40 next year. I SHOULD be using Creme de La Mer instead of the Moisturizing Matte Lotion, don’t you think? So, long story short, I was surprised. First application felt like it wasn’t enough. Man, there is no shine at all, and my skin looked like it’s just… skin, with no moisturizer on top. No dewiness, no shine, no glow. My face looked soft but matte. My first impression would be that it’s probably better for those with oily skin. I was convinced it was, because of the name. I continued to use it every day anyway, just to see if my skin felt tight or drier than usual.
And wow, was I wrong. It was truly unexpected that my skin felt soft and supple day after day, and the best thing was, it didn’t add shine to my face the whole day. I usually get a bit of ‘glow’ by the 4th hour, but with this, my skin still looks fresh. I am still using it now, and my skin is kept moisturized, AND matte. I especially love it when days are hot and humid.
All this ‘matte moisture’ is due to its new Matte Lotion Capsule. La Mer Moisture Spheres are made incredibly small to drive moisture deep into the skin, while the outer gel layer is made larger to provide an exceptionally fresh feeling. Natural mattifying properties such as clay, sea minerals and kelp powder, are carefully blended to create the Mattifying Mesh Network. After being processed into a micro fine powder, the ingredients float and coat each of the Matte Lotion Capsules.
Millions of these Matte Lotion Capsules then drive healing hydration deep into our skin. One strong swimmer penetrates the ovum and …. ah wait, that’s how to get pregnant. HAHAHAHA! But anyway, that’s the science behind how our skin is kept moisturized yet shine-free with the La Mer Moisturizing Matte Lotion.
The La Mer Moisturizing Matte Lotion also contains the Miracle Broth™ (naturally!) which helps soothe irritation and calms the look of redness. My skin gets especially red when it’s hot, and I can attest this cream helps my skin look calmer. This lotion also helps protect against the damaging effects of pollution and other environmental aggressors with the help of lime tea concentrate. Anti-pollution creams and serums have been all the trend lately, so I’m not surprised this is also infused into this lotion.
With all this talk, the only thing that deters me from buying is the price. It is an amazing cream, but also beyond my budget to be using it consistently, and repurchasing it regularly. I know many of YOU who are reading are willing and can afford to splurge, so if this sounds like something right up your alley, I can’t recommend it enough!
