I bought this Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette, Beauty Glow edition a while back from Cult Beauty. I believe this is the second version, and there’s a smokey edition out on Beautylish. This palette is still available for purchase so I don’t know if it’s limited edition or permanent. It is basically a palm sized palette that consists of 3 eyeshadows, 2 blushes, 1 bronzer and 1 highlighter. It’s a palette that can certainly take you from day to night, with addition of eyeliner, mascara and a change of lipstick.
Compared to the other Charlotte Tilbury palette I talked about, this one scores nearly full marks. The eye shadows are smooth and buttery, and blushes pigmented, the bronzer just the right amount of depth for a light skin tone and a highlighter that is subtle enough but that surely adds glow. This is a palette that works better on lighter skin tone, I find. All the colours in this palette are quite light, with the exception of Eye Smoke, a matte dark brown, used to add depth to the eyes. One shade baffles me, however, and that is the Cheek Swish. It is way too dark to be used on my skin as a blush. It looks like a burnt copper shade, that seems to me is more suited as a bronzer. I tried that, but it’s way too red and muddy for that. This shade does not sit well on the apples of the cheeks, it does not work as a contour nor does it work as a bronzer. It still is, until today, a question mark to me. Maybe it just does not work well with my skin tone. So, I use it as an eye shadow.
As you can see in the swatches above and below, the colours are easy to wear. You can also see that Swish is darker than Bronze. Honestly, other than my issue with Swish, this palette is, I think, wonderful for every day wear.
Here’s how I wore it the other day.
Brows are Shu Uemura Stone Grey. I used Eye Enhance all over my lids and Eye Smoke to line. Added some mascara, and on my cheeks, I have Bronze, Highlight and Pop. Omitted Swish. On my lips is my only Charlotte Tilbury lipstick, in Pillow Talk. A perfect nude for me.
In short, I think this palette achieves what it aims to – to give us a natural effortless look that glows. I’m quite happy with this purchase, and won’t hesitate to bring this palette with me when I travel. The only thing is, I prefer makeupless when I walk about exploring 🙂
